Hey i've just got myself my first job part time at a local hotel as a waiter and i'm quite enjoying it, now after a month i've got paid which is great (shopping time!)
I've just got my payslip and i earned £63.55 for the few days i worked at the end of that month (get paid monthly) but i've had £12.60 taken off of that due to tax (works out at 20%)
Now my mum and dad swear blind i shouldn't be getting taxed and that its going to sort itself out but i thought id come here to ask you guys your opinion!
My tax code is listed as "BR" here by the way.
Thanks guys.

Think you need to raise it with your employer definately.
The only forms i have completed are my application form and my bank details/uniform agreement forms.
So no.
It looks like this:- http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/p46.pdf
Info on why:- http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/p49.htm#5 and http://www.thesite.org.uk/homelawandmoney/money/benefitsandtax/incometax
I think i'll flag this up with them next friday when im in and see if they can help me out.
Need to get my free gym membership sorted too
I work in payroll
 You need to fill in a P46 asap to get your tax back. As your working part time your earnings shouldnt go over the threasholds for tax/NI.
It's worth noting that your personal allowance is being increased to £6,035 from September 2008 and backdated to the start of this tax year.
