    Test Analyst.

I just kind of fell into the role after a string of shitty dead-end jobs. I like it because it pays a lot of money.

    I own a Subway franchise.

I originally bought it as I have experience with the brand (having managed a store previously) and am passionate about it. In addition, the opportunities to grow my business are excellent and the option to buy into a tried and tested business model appealed to me at the time.

Wow, you must earn a ton.

My McD's is a franchise and our owner actually owns three different stores. Her yearly profit is something ridiculous.

i work for a cleaning company.

    i'm too cool.

eta - i chose it because they offer me a 4.5 hour a week contract in termtime, which they up to around 20 hours in holidays. it's been ideal for the last year as i've been doing my A levels and needed a little bit more money but could only really work one day a week. and also because it has been my first job, and first jobs are usually shit :p

The money is decent, although it depends on how the company performs. However, most Subway stores only gross a fraction of the average McDonalds store and I would imagine our gross profit margins are a fair bit smaller.

    Air Traffic Controller.

I don't remember why I initially got interested in it, but I had read some information and somehow just knew I had the personality for this kind of work. At least as far as I could gather what ATCOs did.

Turns out I was right and I finally found my passion. This is exactly the kind of job I thought it was and now I get paid to be a self righteous bitch who is never wrong. :thumb:

Oh that is really interesting! I hear it is super stressful, is it?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Not in the way most people think. There are some places more stressful than others and it differs between airspaces and companies what the workload is like.

On average, the job I do isn't that stressful. I take care of transatlantic flights and it's actually a huge routine job. However there are some days when there's constant trouble, something can come up or stuff like that. Today for example, I replace this guy and he's been sitting for about an hour chilling. As soon as I sit down I get a call from Canada with an aircraft that instantly affects 3 others that I need to get below him. I spent a good while puzzling it together, making a ton of calls and when things finally calmed down and I was breathing normal my friend returned to replace me and again has nothing to do!

Truth be told, most of the people at work enjoy the stress factor to an extent. I know that I tend to enjoy it a lot when there's something going on. There's however a thin line that divides 'good' stress and 'bad' stress. No one wants to cross that line because the feeling is absolutely horrible when you can't keep up with your traffic.

I'm a software developer. I like solving problems and anything that's logical so it suits me...wouldn't say I expect to stay in an overly technical career for all that long though really.

Brain Surgeon / Pilot in my spare time.

Whilst not daydreaming, I'm a database developer.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I'm a regional co-ordinator. I'm a temp and just do it for the money until I start my graduate scheme.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I'm a legal adviser with Shelter. I meet with clients and try and sort out problems they have getting care, be it from social services or from the NHS. I help people of all ages, from care leavers who are getting shafted by social services right up to elderly people who are being left to their own devices without any support. I help people with physical disabilities and those with mental health difficulties. I help the friends and family who care for disabled people.

I've kind of fallen into this line of work but at the same time I get a great deal of job satisfaction out of helping people with their problems. The buzz you get when you sort a big problem out for someone is fantastic. It more than makes up for the fact that I'd get paid more in commercial law.

Although working for a charity has its perks, including lots of holiday (30 days) and a big fat pension, the pay is lower than in commercial law.

Depending on my shift I am a receptionist/cafe worker/skate marshall.

I only work there because it's almost impossible to get a job around here. Hopefully I'll find something soon before the places makes me completely homicidal....

    xXx

    I'm an event's co-ordinator.

I organise Family Fun Day's and Fairgrounds for people and sometimes for major companies.

Is quite stressful at times knowing your responsible for the peoples day and trying to make sure nothing goes wrong.

I'm a HR Administrator for a manufacturing company. Am responsible for payroll input, writing contracts, running psychometric testing sessions, a shitload of filing (only bit I hate!) and keeping records on everything up-to-date

Originally took it cos it was an admin job which is what I'm experienced in, but actually really enjoy it - plus it pays very well for the area.
