Mornington Crescent

BillieTheBotBillieTheBot Posts: 8,721 Bot
I feel that in honour of the passing of the legend Humphrey Lyttelton, that a special game of Mornington Crescent should be held in his honour.

We'll play with Hugo's 2nd Strategem, which means that moves accross consecutive rows are prohibitive and tagging is only permissible if the opposing player is about to be huffed. All clear?

I'll start with Albright's Opening:

Totteridge & Whetstone.
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

hmmm good start. I like that strategem and since everyone knows it, it makes it easier to follow.

my move is Elephant and Castle

    Baker Street

Hmmmm .. Baker Street. Now that would have been quite a predictable move if you were following the Yin Sang Stratagem. But straight after Elephant and Castle? Nice!

    Angel!

oh, ouch, i didn't see that one coming. You can tell i'm a little bit rusty at this.

How to get out of this one...let's play....the saviour of all, Gospel Oak.

Only a fool would have gone there!!!!
Still, that's how you're rolling, so I'll bust into Covent Garden to get a bit more centralised! ;)

    oof, ganging up I see.

A tricky and not very well known move shall come into play here, more often used in the Falang Strategem but I believe it works here.

    Notting Hill Gate

Are we following the standard Thurgood-Hamilton conversion algorithm, but banning semi-lateral shunts?

Either way, 'Tudor Court Rules' would suggest :

    Blackfriars!

Hmm, surprised no-one has employed Rushden's Gambit yet though Teagan did miss a good huffing opportunity.

    Fairlop.

    Fairlop.

    Eeek! :chin:

    Warren Street?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
It's close, but I think we can get out of this one.

Hehe that took a long time.

    I'm invoking Trumpington's Variations, Waterloo.

In that case I have to go for Elephant and Castle, since anywhere else is an illegal move !!

dont worry man, you're not missing much, its basically one of those games that you make up as you go along.

its a load of bollocks really and is supposed to take the piss out of those complicated strategy games, goes back to the 70s i believe.

i'll probably get some messages now sayings its because i dont know how to play, thats how these threads tend to go when they pop up on every other message board every week.

    anyone people! carry on, enjoy!

You just don't know how to play :p

Anyway, I know it's late in the game, but I don't think anyone has completed a sliding return path with the associated centralisation algorithm, so I'll call Covent Gardens.

To echo KoG, you just aren't familiar with the rules :p

That looks like the Wikipedia definition of the game...

From Covent Garden, the easiest move I guess is a straight diagonal:

    Liverpool Street

Ouch! Isn't is a bit early to go with the aggressive Orrington’s Parallel Equivalence Formula? Surely if you had waited for an inverted Penning Trap, that move would have been devastating?

Ah well, put it down to inexperience.

    Holland Park! :thumb:

invoking the special international rules shyboy?? tut tut, remember you must always announce it.

If that is how you are playing it, however, We'll head for Kentish Town.
