Hidden virus - important

There's a virus which will "wake up" on the
25th of May, and you may already have it on your system despite having anti-virus software. Apparently some IPs have sent out warnings about it, if you haven't heard (as I hadn't until a friend passed the message on) then do this now to see if you have it on your system:

go to "START" then "FIND" / "FILES or FOLDERS"

then type in name "SULFNBK.EXE"

choose drive C:\ to look in then click "FIND NOW"

if u have it in your machine then it'll probably be hiding in
c:\windows\command

Now DO NOT OPEN IT!! just delete it.

I don't know what it does to the system but it's better to be safe than sorry! You could also pass this on to your friends because if you have it, it may also have been passed on to others in your address book.

    Are you definate about this? It's on my computer and has been there since 23/4/99. That seem like an awfully long time for a virus to be sleeping.

    The more I think about this the more it doesn't make sense. Unless you download a file it can't just get on your system can it? I'm thinking maybe this is just a hoax e-mail that's being passed round to get people to delete bits of their software.....

    It's just that I'm sure I read before something about .exe files not being very commonly used or something, certainly that they're the ones that most commonly carry viruses.

    Oh I don't really have a clue about this, I shouldn't have posted this dumb thread in the first place but I don't know what to do about this now..... should I have deleted it or not?

    This file is also on my computer with the same date as jeff's so i do think its a hoax

    Well i deleted it anyway cos it looks a bit iffy .. you can always install the file again later if Windows screws up - well more than it normally does <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif"&gt;

    I doubt it IS a virus or trojan though, but we'll see in a few days time lol.
    If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.

    SULFNBK.EXE is a utility you can use to restore your long file names on files which can become corrupt.

    Sometimes after you uninstall Windows 98, the long file names on the Start menu may be
    replaced with MS-DOS-compatible (short) file names in 8.3 format. For example,
    the Accessories folder on the Start menu may be displayed as Access~1.

    This can occur if the Windows 98 uninstall procedure did not finish
    successfully.

    SULFBK.EXE can then be run in conjunction to restore that file name to its original character length.
