I haven't checked my email for a few days and I came to my computer to find the email below off someone at college.
A brief outline:
I registered www.matherkick.co.uk with somemates from college to do a website about my mates and me and college life & stuff.
Matherkick is a private joke within our group. So one annoying person has copyrighted "matherkick" so we can't use it.
I mean...some people really have no life!
Anyway here's the email. Made me laugh, thats for sure!

I'm am just writing this e-mail to inform you of the copyright of matherkick and all relevant information.
From week commencing 09/07/2001 Matherkick, Mather Kick, Mather-Kick, MatherKick, matherkick and all other possible mixtures of matherkick will be copyrighted.
Any illegal copy of this, will result in IMEDIATE legal action under the International Copyright law.
I have obtained all relevant information to contact the people who registered matherkick.co.uk, and to inform the registration company of an illegal site.
From Monday, your site name, "http://www.matherkick.co.uk" will be an illegal site. I will inform the registered company of this, and will have it de-registered.

right basically here's the deal:
they firstly have to learn how to spell:
IMMEDIATE
then you do this:
legally all you have to do is prove that you have registered something and have a VALID reason that you have done so, and in court you would be awarded that domain

a recent case was when a guy with a surname McDonald or something registered something along those lines and McDonalds took him to court - they lost I think ,or he had to change it to MacDonald or something similar...

copyright is not something to be "bought", it is a right that any author of an original work is entitled to.

u can copyright names, its called "intellectual property" an it includes names, logos, even ideas
BUT if you registered that domain 1st then you could, at least in theory, sue him for stealing your intellectual property, even though u hadnt copyrighted it, cause u can prove you registered it before he copyrighted it.
