Issue With Logging In And Password

edited January 2023 in Help Desk
Several times, I've gone to log and have been told that my password and/or username is wrong, but I know it's not. I've tried retypying the password 9as I know it's correct) and it lets me in at the second attempt (always) but enver at the first. Why is this?

I've no idea I'm afraid - it's not a problem I've ever heard of before. Is anyone else getting the same thing - I guess it could be an issue with caching rejecting the first login but that shouldn't reject the password/login just show you as logged out.

    Is it still happening?

Yes. Had to type in my password 3 times just now, before it let me log in.

Just a few suggestions - try clearing the cache, it may be saving a bad login.

Make sure you've ticked the 'remember me' box

Try with an alternative browser and let me know how that goes.

This happened to me earlier too! Although I can't clear the cache or use another browser because I'm at work and don't have the right permissions to :|

If you can't clear the cache then one thing you might want to try would be using an alternative address - so either vbulletin.thesite.org or vbulletin.thesite.org.uk - which ever you don't normally use.

    Thanks Jim :)

What is it that you're looking to do Cliopatra, you seem to be able to post and have created your own thread about drinking?

Is there something more we can help you with?

I've had this problem on another forum I'm at, it's to do with the url.

where we are, you type in the domain:

    www.domain.com/forum

click log-in amd enter your details and it redirects you to

    domain.com/forum

and you need to log in again.

Although it shouldn't matter, are people trying from either:
    vbulletin.thesite.org.uk
    vbulletin.thesite.org

    ?

Sorry but this site is impossible to comprehend, let alone use.

Are we all suposed to be rocket scientists to understand it?

I can't understand it so lord help anyone who has problems.

Why is this site so complicated?

Its actually quite easy to undestand for me anyway! What bits are you having trouble with?

I was hoping your thread solved the problem, then realised you can't use 'www' with our URL :grump: - but yeah, it would be good for people to tell us which url they are using - I'm thinking that it's '.uk' that is causing the problem?

    Hi Cliopatra,
I'm sorry to hear you feel frightened by the forums. A good way to keep track of the threads you've started and the posts you've made is to click on your username - there you can see 'all posts by cliopatra' and if you view your public profile you can see 'threads started' too.

    Also, here's a link to your thread - http://vbulletin.thesite.org/showthread.php?t=135259

    I hope that helps. :)

Your username profile is at http://vbulletin.thesite.org/member.php?u=34553

If you press 'find all posts by Cliopatra' it should bring up everything you've posted :)

I don't know how it can say you're a guest if you're logged in and posting. I'm just as confused as you :(

I'm sorry I'm not sure. I'm only a normal member who has past experience of forums and I've thought of all I can think of.

Hopefully Jim, Helen or Jamie might be able to help with some more technical advice either later or tomorrow.

Don't ask me. Either I am a member, which I am sure I am and I do not log out, or I'm a guest who shouldn't be here.

I do not log out. I am the only person who uses this computer, so how come I'm not recognised as a member?

It really is hard to understand what you saying is wrong. If you're logged in then you can post - which you can. A guest can't post and doesn't see a profile.

You are a member, and you are logged in so a think it's a bit confusing trying to understand what problem you are having?

    Hi Cliopatra

Sorry to hear you've been having difficulty navigating the boards. If you enter this url: http://vbulletin.thesite.org/ you will be taken straight to the main forum page where you should see a list of all the different forums.

    Introduce Yourself
    Anything Goes
    Politics & Debate
    Waste Time
    Health & Wellbeing

    etc..

By clikcing on any of these headings you'll be taken in to that forum where you will then see a list of discussion topics and a button at the top that says 'Post a new thread'.

By clicking on that you will be able to start your own discussion. So for example if you have a health issue that you are worried about you can post a new thread in the Health & Wellbeing forum asking for people's advice.

If you have a question or problem you'd like to ask you can also use our askTheSite service where one of our trained advisors will get back to you within 3 working days.

    :)

You can go from the main page, into the problems with thesite.org section which is at the bottom, then find this thread in there. Things dont magically just disappear, they stay in the same place.

    As people have said -

You can find something you've previously posted in a number of ways -

You can click on your username and then click on 'find all posts' or 'find all threads' that you've started to see a complete list of everything you've posted

You can look at the main index and look at the section of the boards you've posted in previously and find the thread you've started. All threads are shown in reverse date order.

It's possible to click on 'new posts' to see all new posts on the boards and see if the thread you've started is included in that.

Or you can click on this link to see the threads you've started -
    http://vbulletin.thesite.org/search.php?searchid=2103200

However I think we do need to make it clear that this is a discussion board, and is run exactly how all discussion boards are run. If this form of a support service is something you find real difficulty using then please consider using another service that you will find less distressing.

This is a place to help, if it isn't helping then please don't make yourself feel worse. To imply this website has been designed to make you feel worse is pretty hurtful as that is evidently not the intention here.

Very sorry to hear how you are feeling, we all hope you get the hang of the boards and that we will be able to help.

Easiest way: click on your name in a previous post and then click on 'find all posts by this user'.

Boards can take some getting used to but hopefully you should get the hang of it soon.
