My uncle is settin up a website for his buisness and hes asked me my advice as he's totally non-computerised (yeah i know its not a word but anyway <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif">). Im alrite at computers but not in2 all the technical stuff,
So I was wondering how hard is it to set up a decent website, or how much can it cost to get one done. He's already got a domain (?)
Thanx

he needs to sit back and decide what he wants his site to do for him basically. once that is done, then he can either try to build it himself or pay people to do it.
if he wants to do it by himself.. then he needs to find an internet service provider that will host his website. once he has that.. then he can use some of the software that is out there like Dreamweaver or FrontPage to layout his site. those programs are very much like word processing and are fairly easy to learn. the other option is for him to buy a book on html and learn how to hand code a website. it's not that hard either, but if he's not a techie, this is definitely not something he's going to have the patience for.
now should he want to pay an agency to do this for him. they will ask him the same questions i did. a good agency will charge anywhere from 2,000 pounds to upwards of 20,000.
so if he wants to do this right, he's going to have to research this thoroughly. he should surf his competitors' sites, and larger business sites to figure out what he likes because the best thing to do is "borrow" elements from other sites. <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">
i wish him luck dreamer. <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">

OK. Websites.
If your Uncle wants a proffesional site and doesn't really know about creating websites wouldn't he be better to get a professional to do it because it would give potential customers a better image of his company.
Just a thought <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif">
Like a few other pelple have said most programs are pretty straight forward and not 'hardcore' code .... WYSIWYG, what you see is what you get, just means you can type test, place pictures and in sorts out all the HTML code in the backround for you so you dont need knowledge of HTML .. a little might help !!
The more you mess about creating sites the better you'll get, and then you'll become more knowledgable and implement more complex things into your site.
Keep it simple, and be careful what colours you choose.
Good Luck <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif">

professional? it looks like a 3-yr-old's URL!! http://www.unclesite.com would look prefessional (and this domain is not registered yet!)
Im sorry, I just burst out laughing when I read this post.
I dont know if its the way it was said or the images of that site and the reasons it hadnt been registered, but i found it really funny, nice one.
Hello, I'm Sadie & I'll be your escort for the evening.
to be honest very little would end up "prefessional" looking <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">
