Just for arguements sake, who's your favourite?

So with one hand on the wheel
The other out the window
With a smile on my face
My middle finger up...
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

Green Day. By far. I think Blink are too.... catchy, I guess. Makes it annoying to my ears. Also can't stand the whinnyness of the voice.

seeing that Blink 182 are punk-by-numbers coporate punk, everybodys loveable, mischevous (and dont forget cute) "rebels"...

i'd pick Green Day way waaaay more. Blink 182 suck the corporate cock big time. Thats not to say Green Day hasnt been caught stroking the music industrys quivering member but at least in their albums you can see musical growth. Blink 182 remain cartoons of themselves, an almost Dennis-The-Menace-with-a-guitar type band, one parents would have no problem with their kids reading.

Why? Because that sells more records than (gulp!) *REAL* punk does!!!

Dookie was adolescant yet fun and i'll give it that Blink are adolescant, and for all the people that took the little bus to school, fun. But since then Green Day has broken out of making childish records and moved into better places.

'Warning' is and was a classic album, showing an almost Beatles meet Clash-esque side to them, and above all showing that true punk has class.

'Take Off Your Pants and Jacket' is an enigma wrapped in a mystery shrouded in secrecy wrapped in a thinly veiled cock joke.

So yeah, i'd have to say Green Day. And i pray to all your respective gods that you say the same.

    blink 182, everytime!

yea green day are more serious now, but its a thing called evolution; whe the time is rite, blink 182 will take a step in that direction.

did i at least sound a little bit like i know what im talking about?

    Neither?

Nah but that burning thing at Reading by Greenday was pretty cool! Nuff respect.

    B]

yeah, blink 182 have had 5 albums now. C'mon. Dick and fart jokes wear thin after 5 albums.

I'm coming off as a bit of an asshole here but i just despise Blink 182. They wank, sorry, RANK up there with Backstreet Boys in my mind.

Blink 182 remind me a lot of Benny Hill when i listen to them. Theres nothing wrong with being silly and all i totally respect that but when you start caricaturing yourself it gets old and eventually you just cancel yourself out. Or something. I'm giving myself a headache. I'm gonna go watch Dukes Of Hazzard.

In the film Chasing Amy there's this line -
"It all comes down to what my grandmother told me. 'Holden', she said, 'the big bucks are in dick and fart jokes.' She was a church goer, too."
I just thought you might find that amusing. Don't get me wrong, I loathe Blink 182. The most persistant travelers on the fucking "Corporate" or "Gap Punk" road. Greenday's not neccesarily punk, but they are great artists. And they've got talent, something you don't see everyday in the music business.

anyway, blink 182 have done some serious songs, on serious issues. like stay together 4 the kids, adams song...well, 2, but its more than none, so they aint all dick jokes and enemas

you could start a whole nother discussion about the ethics of punk and all that but the only reason i hate Blink is because they say they are PUNK. Punk does not sell 10 million albums or whatever. I dont think anyone but Nirvana can go around saying their punk after 10 million albums; at least Nirvana stayed true and didnt write songs about prank phone calls and all that.

Blegh. Then again Kurt DID blow his brains out. Fair enough if Blink said 'yep! we're pop, straight up pop', then that would be cool. When every 12 year old is running around waving their Blink 182 and Sum 41 albums and saying 'ooh looky I'm a punk!', it makes the REAL punks look like posers, which is why i've reverted back to Emo Boy!

EMO! Its the way of the future. Countdown 9 months until my friends kid brother will be telling me about his favorite emo album.

It'll be cool to hang out in coffee shops 24/7 like true emo-boys do, and then we'll have to just sit in our rooms and listen to Joy Division and play Playstation all day. And then it'll be cool to do that. And then Britney Spears will date me because i'm emo boy.

    I. Am. Emo Boy.

Hmm tricky one. I like Blink a wee bit more than GD as they are out there doing what they do and are having a hell of a good time doing it. Someone earlier said that little kids run around with blink albums but I have to say that this is untrue as I can't think of one parent who would like their offspring be listening to F**k a dog now would they lol. Speaking of Offspring...they're better than both of em! They've been around longer and have proven themselves true to punk. A very true quote from Tom DeLonge (Blink) which sums up their attitude to punk:

"We don't want to act like adults. Anybody who can stay in a state of adolescence will be much better off later on. Look at people who are working nine-to-five jobs out of college, and look at professional skateboarders or guys in punk bands. See who's having more fun."

blink 182 are corporate punk, simple as that. thats not cool.

I can't believe how narrow minded some of you people are. Just because a band does well that suddenly means that they're not punk? What a load of bollocks! I for one am happy to see them getting such high sales, not bitching at them because they're not being true to punk because ooh ooh they're doing WELL in what they like doing. What retarded bollocks.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
The Offspring do beat both of them though

but its NOT punk! Listen to the Misfits, Sex Pistols (arguable), The Damned, listen to Black Flag, THATS punk. Blink 182 are NOT punk, yet they market themselves as punk.

Huzzah and kudos for them doing well more power to ya. Yay high sales. But stop marketing yourselves as punk because its POP. I would like to jump off a high ladder wearing golf shoes onto the crotch of who-ever coined the term 'pop-punk'.

Its like the difference between rap and hip-hop. Rap is the money-hoes kind, hip-hop is the inner city psyche kind. Like MC KMD said, "Rap is something you do. Hip hop is something you live".

Punk is something you live. Its a state of mind, not a fashion sense goddamit!

Do you see my point? I have nothing against Blink other than the fact that a) i personally think their music is crap b) theyre degrading the punk scene.

Its like if the Teletubbies were the spokes...er...tubbies for England. They were what you sent out to foriegn countries for diplomatic reasons, to sign treaties and shit like that. You wouldnt want that, right? The teletubbies are a bunch of dribbling fools.

Its that simple. Record industry took some pretty boys from San Diego who made vaguely punk sounding music (who played some mind-numbingly small shows to 15-20 people around here) and turned them into the moronic, childish, pretty-boy morons spokespersons of punk.

How do you think that made the real punks feel? Seeing every cocksucking teenybopper in a Sex Pistols shirt. Punk is not childish, punk is not sold in stores, you cant BUY punk.

Good for Blink for selling god knows how many records. Theres nothing wrong with that, i respect them for that.

However, selling yourself as a fake product is not on.

Thanks to MTV and the like music is more about the product than the art that it is. If someone could listen to the words to 'Rock Show' and HONESTLY tell me that that is ART... geez.

Andy Warhol once said there is no difference between high art and low art. He has a great point. There is just art. However, there is also great art, and there is shit art. There is a thin line between a childish drawing selling for millions and a childish drawing on the refridgerator. Blink 182 have always been on the wrong side of that line, and they have to take down the name of punk with them, making it childish and obsolete.

Grr. I'm all angry now! lol i'm gonna go cheer up and come bak later, hope you enjoy my post.

You make some great points there dude. I know punk is a state of mind. I class myself as punk but don't go showing it off. I hate seeing lil kids going around looking like they bought their whole outfit from the same place. You mentioned how blink got signed because they sounded remotely punk? If you knew anything about them you'd know that they had made 3 albums before the "popular" enema of the state. These weren't appreciated by the masses at all. Also they proved themselves to be awesome live with their album The Mark, Tom and Travis Show. And no I'm not saying that they're the greatest punk band ever cos I'm not in any way. I'm just saying I like them more than greenday as they have a lot of fun. We all need to sit down and chill
Anyway, lets call it a truce huh?
