Any other Pixies fans about? They are now just about my favourite band ever. They were the forerunners of alternative rock and a big influence on Nirvana. If ure into any rock, punk or indie, check them out. They were around from 1987 to 1991/2. And I saw Frank Black (songwriter, singer and rhythm guitarist) at Reading this year <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif">

I certainly used to be, about the same time as I was listening to James, Inspiral Carpets etc.....I think I've even got most of their albums somewhere, and a bootlegged live performance tape.

Just after getting to Uni my tastes changed to more house/trance/techno stuff which is pretty much the way it is now, so I don't listen to them as much anymore.

I did get Frank Black's first two solo albums though, a bit weird but still inspired stuff, didn't Kim Deal (sp?) form her own band too??

So what's ya best rated album by 'em??

Pixies were the best ever! Yeah! Frank Black got wicked fat though... 'Where Is My Mind' is a totally genius song, all of their songs are. Everyone should own at least one Pixies cd.

Their best album (not including Trompe le Monde which i haven't got) was undoubtedly Doolittle - quite possible the best album ever. Come on Pilgrim is great too tho unfortunately u can only get it tacked onto the end of Surfer Rosa unless u can find an import copy. There's one in HMV Belfast that i might get. I recommend any newcomers to them to start with Death to the Pixies - their best of. There is about 7 or 8 songs off doolittle on it. Well worth getting.

Havent heard much Pixies stuff, but they were a huge influence on Radiohead when they werer starting out (Pablo Honey and before) so they wont be shite!

It matters not who won or lost, but how you place the blame.

I was talking to my friends about this earlier-at the moment there are no bands around who i absolutely love. i used to have a thing for Blur and got into a band called Soulwax for a bit but since then i only really find myself getting into the house/trance/techo stuff at clubs and that's about it.

Although, having said that, when i first heard 'where is my mind' at the end of Fight Club I became completely obsessed with it, so maybe the Pixies is the band for me.

Suggestions as to which album to start with?

    if in doubt-dance.

Like i said, start with Death to the Pixies - the best of. Then buy the studio albums according to your favourites off it.

Saw them a couple of times at Reading.

at Streetlight Records (http://www.streetlightrecords.com) they have a few copies of Come On Pilgrim for only $10, i got mine for 8. My band does this kind of mellee of Pixies songs all strung together and it turns out pretty wicked if you ask me.
