I've been running in student sabbatical officer elections this year, for a position I lost by a very narrow margin last year. I'm terrified I'll lose again and don't know how I'll cope if I do. Eek.

Good luck, lovey dovey! *crosses fingers for you*

So, do tell, explain this student election sabattical thing.

It's a full-time job looking after student welfare, and there's loads I want to do with it. I have a pretty good relationship with a lot of staff in the university, too, so I could hit the ground running. I just don't know if other people know that...

I'm sure you will win - you remind me very much of a friend i had a uni who had that exact same job.

However if you don't win its not the end of the world and it it doesn't mean that you wern't the best person for the job - it probably just means you wernt' the pushyest (and being pushy definatley isn't what this job needs). Outside of politics i cant' think of any other job in the world where people who know little about the subject get to vote on who should and shouldnt' do the job. Plus student politics is massive part of your life once your at university but after you leave your perspectives all change.

I'm crossing everythig i hve thoguh to send you good luck!!!

Thank you! I've looking at other jobs I could do next year to put things in perspective a bit, so I'm a bit calmer - still not a very good loser, though!

I'm running for this position too... Though I don't expect to win at all seeing as a certain society basically runs the SU and people vote on ethnic lines where I am. Basically the other guys don't have to campaign, which is a tad annoying because the person I'm running against does fuck all (literally, plus she's always bitching and now she's running AGAIN) and I actually have listened to the students and have plans.

But you know Piccolo... As much as you want this job, if you don't get in then just think of it as failing a job interview... In fact it isn't even that as you actually need skills and personality to win an interview, whereas with student elections you just need people on the ground to force flyers in to people's face.

That's what I'm doing, looking at other jobs too.

And good luck to you... I reckon you'd rock at that job. It's nice to see somebody running because they care (and I know you do) and who understands student politics. Not just somebody wanting something for their CV.

    *Hugs and luck*

Good luck! :) Not that I think you would need it, from what I've seen you are definitely the best person for such a job.

    When will you find out?

Unofficially, it seems to have been a total landslide (hurrah!).

It's not announced for another hour but I sat in on the count. :hyper:

Ironically, I can't eat raw tomatoes.

And I did win, with well over 700 votes to my opponent's 215.

    Argh...

    I lost by 80 votes.

I didn't even turn up to campaign on Tuesday and came late the other days.

    Oh well.

Ah seems a shame. How many voted? At least the fact it seems quite close indicates that you had a shot :)

Oh, shit. No one in I wanted to work with in the University of London got in. That sucks for you, but it sounds like it was a tough race.

Well basically... I think it was a dodgy campaign and (privately) suspect that some things have been done to keep the current sabs in, including the fact that nominations for the elections were barely advertised. Also, the other team cheated and that's why I didn't put effort in.

Tbh... I don't want to work alongside the kind of people who are so desperate to win that they'd lie and harass students to vote...

    Just ain't me.

Getting away from university will do me good though, I don't like it here. I want to actually get a job and you know... Work away from students (no offense to students... But I mean I'm 24 so a bit old for uni) and with professionals...

Now my only issue is getting a job.
