I don't understand what a calorie is and how much is too much.

Can someone explain please?

    A calorie is a measurement of energy, specifically a measurement of how much energy a certain amount of food provides you. It is simply a way of measuring energy in the same way that pints are a way of measuring liquid.

    Your body uses the energy to function. If you take on more energy than you use in a day your body stores the excess energy as fat, for when you use more energy than you take on.

    As a guide a moderately active adult woman should take on around 2000 calories of energy a day and a moderately active adult man should take on around 2500.
