Hi guys, I used to post on here a few years back, and have returned, yay.

I just wanted your ideas... not because I'm lazy but because I'm interested in finding some good new music.

My bf is away studying in New Zealand for a few months, and I want to make him a mix c.d. (how times have changed), no theme, e.g. not a c.d. of love songs or anything, but just great songs, they can be soppy or romantic, or not!

If you have any suggestions, or any favourtie songs let me know. :thumb:

Thanks in advance!

And what genre(s) of music are we talking about here?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
anything really... though hard rock/metal or anything extreme is probably out. :)

What songs do you both like? What bands does he like? What might remind you both of the other/the relationship?

It doesn't have to be romantic as such - very few people appreciate a gift of Phil Collins, Bryan Adams and REO Speedwagon's greatest hits - but it may as well be meaningful (otherwise why not just buy him Now 163! or whatever number they're at - who's counting?)

Damn. Probably not a good idea to include The Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up", then. :p

Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise (Chigaco, They Are Night Zombies!!).
Bright Eyes - Cassadaga (If the Brakeman Turns My Way, Four Winds).
Death Cab For Cutie - Transatlanticism (Title and Registration, Transatlanticism, We Looked Like Giants, Lightness, A Lack of Color).
The Shins - Oh, Inverted World (New Slang, Caring Is Creepy).
The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow (Mine's Not a High Horse, Gone for Good).
Radiohead - In Rainbows (Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, Reckoner, Nude).
    Battles - Mirrored (Tonto, Atlas).
M.I.A. - Kala (Paper Planes, Come Around, Bamboo Banga).
Air - Talkie Walkie (Cherry Blossom Girl, Alone In Kyoto, Universal Traveler, Surfing On A Rocket).
Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs - Fever To Tell (Maps, Y Control).
Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs - Show Your Bones (Gold Lion).
The Decemberists - Picaresque (We Both Go Down Together).
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife (The Island, Yankee Bayonet, Summersong, O Valencia).
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots (Fight Test, One More Robot/Sympathy 3000-21, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Pt. 1, Do You Realize??).
The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin (Race For The Prize, Waitin' for a Superman, Suddenly Everything Has Changed, The Gash, Feeling Yourself Disintegrate).
The Flaming Lips - At War With The Mystics (Free Radicals, The Sound of Failure , Pompeii am Götterdämmerung, The W.A.N.D.).
Mogwai - Happy Songs For Happy People (Hunted By A Freak)
Gogol Bordello - Voi-La Intruder (Mussolini vs. Stalin, Nomadic Chronicle, Start Wearing Purple).
Imogen Heap - Speak For Yourself (Goodnight and Go, Hide and Seek, Just for Now, Speeding Cars).
Arcade Fire - Funeral (Rebellion, Power Out).
Sigur Ros - () (Tracks 4 and 6 - none of the tracks on this album have names).
Sigur Ros - Ágætis Byrjun (Svefn-g-englar).
Sigur Ros - Takk (Hoppípolla, Sæglópur).

If you're not into indie or alternative music, then ignore everything I've just written.

ah well, one surprise track would probably be ok...

But I remember a post on here a while back, where everyone posted their favourite song... and we ended up with a really good, though random, collection of songs...
