SpiritII gave me the idea for this thread, so some of the thanxs (or annoyance) must go it him.

Who do u prefer, the Beatles ort ABBA. I must admitt, i despise the Beatles, even though i know they did some classic songs, but a pub i used o drink in had a right slapper as a local and she used to always put the bloody BEatles on ALL the time so it put me off for life, so come on, cast your vote, as only u can make yourslf heard!

    Out of them two... Abba

But you can't really compare them to each other, a better example would of been perhaps:

    Beatles -or- Rolling Stones

ABBA: Great to dance to, good arrangment and good singers. Basically, the original Cheesy Pop, who Elvis isn't allowed to diss because they were original and doing something fun and unique. Not to be taken seriously, however. Just a bit if fun.

The Beatles: Some classic fun 'pop' songs which we all need. Recognised for their still-superior songwriting skill, i.e. if you have a brain here's your chance to use it. An awful lot of depth often dressed up as pop, sometimes just a damn good universal song which everyone can enjoy regardless of intelligence. It's up to you to read into it and see what's being said. You don't get that in ABBA.

Depends what you're looking for. If it's nothing more than a shallow singalong then it's gotta be ABBA, but if you want something that makes you think then it's the Beatles. Anyone can listen to the Beatles because you can dig as deep as you want with a lot of it, but it's only the easily satisfied (no pun) who appreciate ABBA for anything more than a good dance.

Needless to say which is more popular with the bandwagon babes

The Beatles are/were "cooler" and better, but, tho Abba were unmentionably cheesy, they did write some top tunes and show up Steps et al for the frauds they really are.

well its not to hard to show up steps is it? and i never knew that abba wrote their own songs, but ill give them credit if they did.

the beatles still rock in my opinion tho, its a bit like the chart pop vs real music war of 2day. plus, werent the beatles english, whereas abba were like swedish or somethin? ive gotta say that id be more proud of our english bands than froeign bands, its like bein proud of your country. not that anythin english is particularly great 2 be proud of. and im not sayin that id prefer hearsay to nirvana , im just makin my point that the beatles were one of the best, if not the best british band(s)

oh yeh and whenever i hear a beatles song im like "yeh this is so cool!", but when i hear an abba one i cringe, feel embarrassed, and turn off the radio / TV coz it annoys me so much.

Yeah ABBA are legends, and their music just keep cropping up, epecially at parties and nightclubs 'n' stuff.

You don't hear many of The Beatles' tracks being played at parties and clubs .... that's my verdict your honour!!

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.
