Wasn't quite sure which forum this should go in, as it's a student issue too but went for this one. My question is...do students have to pay council tax when moving into rented property? Or are they exempt?

Hope that helps.
we got a summons through the post! :grump:
It's not the landlord's responsibility to notify the council that you are a student. It's your responsibility to do it.
You get an exemption certificate from your place of study.
our landlord took the certificate from us and informed us they would be sorting it - in that instance they have taken on the responsibilty, therefore it was their responsibilty.
eta - you get them from your uni office
Aye, in that instance its fine, but its not the usual way of doing things.
Some people only realise they have to do it when the summons arrives!
