Emailed Virgin mobile earlier today to request the end to my 12 month cos I'll be abroad for a few months and it would be a waste to be on contract and they rung me on my phone today to confirm.
Then offered to put it as PAYG
Then told me it would be cheaper to buy a SIM card when abroad cos call would be cheaper and offered me a free unlocking code to put another company's SIM card in the phone they gave me with the contract 12 months ago.
They were so helpful it was quite unreal.
Don't think I ever had better customer service putting my needs ahead of their own profit.

I find small independent companies can give the best advice with things like that - presumably because they don't push staff to meet targets for bonus, train them up in different selling methods etc.
