"Alright, children - surprise me!"

No, Stargalaxy's account has not been hijacked by a paedophile, in case you're wondering. :p The quote in the title isn't from me. It's something that a guy I knew at the arcades this year once said. Top bloke, but had a slightly disturbing perspective on children, to put it mildly. Anyway, on with the thread...

Tell us something about your childhood that may surprise other members.
Here's my "revelation", if you can call it that. Whilst I was at primary school, my favourite time of the week was Friday morning. For an hour and a half that day, we had dance classes. Believe it or not, but I used to be quite good at it. Between the ages of 7 and 11, I was entered into quite a few dance competitions and won a lot of them. I've still got some of those medals to this day.

Sadly, when I went to secondary school, no dance classes were available, so I had to stop doing it. However, my interest in dancing has never quite gone away. These days, if there's some decent music on, I still find myself having a bit of a dance to it. I also do that when I'm drunk, but I'm hardly alone there. :p During my time at halls, I went one day down to the Reception area to check if I'd had any mail delivered. Along with my mail was a leaflet for a dance club called Copacablanca. Believe me, if I was still at MMU, I'd have already signed up for classes. Still, I'll get to strut my stuff on the dancefloor next year, and I can't wait! ;)
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

I feel tricks like that should be ideally done with no clothes on really.

The David Brent dance is something I need further instruction on, but with time, practice and concentration I feel I may one day come close to perfecting it.

i was quite a good dancer as a child, got medals and all sorts.

other than that nothing really embarrassing, other than i got caught at school for running a pornography ring, used to make loads off that. selling of dirty mags pays for lots of sweets as a child

None in particular. But I was disturbingly good at disco dancing. Spooky! We didn't spend our time learning the salsa, or anything like that. However, after seeing Kelly Brook doing the salsa on Strictly Come Dancing recently, I feel more than tempted to try that. (Mind you, I suspect that's less to do with learning to dance, and more to do with the fact I used to practically worship a naked poster of Kelly Brook that adorned my bedroom wall during my teenage years. But I digress.)

It's advice most of us ignore, I reckon. When I started college at the age of 16, the first thing that the principal (as he called himself) said to us was "Don't give up sports now that you've left school". I did - and I wish I hadn't.

i got kicked out of ballet
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I used to do ballet but had to leave - the classes shot up to something crazy like £80-90 a year! (on top of that, I had separation anxiety cos of my parents divorce when I was 5 and spent about an hour of the class crying each time, so there was really no point in going )!!

I was on the road safety team when I was 9/10ish. We were county champions and got our pictures in the paper :o

If you're unfamiliar with the concept of road safety teams, it was basically an initiative by the police in those days where you had to memorise the highway code and then answer questions on it, University challenge style. To keep us up on our road safety and out of trouble, I think. OUTRAGEOUSLY geeky, I'm sure you'll agree.

I came third in an inter-school design competition. It was of a birdbox, and i won a walkman. Even in the mid-nineties, that was a crap prize.

I used to be really good at dancing. Ballet, jazz, modern, tap .. Loved it ! I used to be obsessed with getting into a girlband as well, quite embarassing now when I look back at old video tapes of me and a few friends miming along to Be'witched.

I was almost kicked out of my school at 12 for being a satanist :| I never was one though, it was an overreaction to me printing "business cards" with "GHOSTS!!!" on them.
I still can't believe it, how from that thing many students AND teachers in the school ended up believing I was a satanist... It wasn't a religious school either.
I don't remember (or know) how I got out of this, but even a couple of years later I still got called a satanist sometimes, and I heard that a teacher (the crazy one -I have stories about her) was convinced I was.

I was in the local paper for various Brownie/Guide/School related things when I was younger. I even made the front page once.
Got the best As and A level maths results in my year at sixth form. (and I know it not childhood related but I was bloody chuffed)
