Did antone see that film about bloody sunday last night starring james Nesbitt??
I found it to be so biased. It was unbelievable how the british were made out to be the blame for it all and that they shot so many "innocent" people.
Just interested to see what anyone else thinks as i found it quite annoying

Shit, total shit. Thats all I can say. The only decent bit was when James Nesbitt got shot the smarmy bastard.
I think it's even worse how they released it despite evidence that the IRA opened fire first has been released.

yeah but that was supposed to a reinactment and it was just propaganda to support the IRA

guys, that is fucking harsh. true the programme had an irish slant on it but you cannot deny the fact that the british army have been the propagators of some seriously evil shit in regards to the killing of 'innocents'. cites : the massacre in india of protestors who were sitting having a peaceful meeting, africa (on a number of occasions)

there was no need for the massacre of 13 people, and then for the queen to honour the generals in charge was totally wrong.
i'd also like to know where this 'evidence' is that there were irish people with guns.

You don't watch the news do you?
A member of the IRA stepped forward and said he was one of the people responsible for shooting at the paras.
He has admitted that the paras were acting in self defence.

if you checked it out you would find that one of sein feins leading members who was part of the IRA was there and that they did have guns he practically admitted it. And although the brits did kill alot of people the amount of attacks made on them by the paramilitaries is unbelivable

in my opinion 13 dead people is not self defence, its a massacre, and you cannot deny that the british army has been party to some fairly obnoxious killings before. see previous post.

mmmm. a tough one.

I dont normally watch things like this, they upset me and I have yet to see anything that's not biased in some way. I have particular difficulty in things protrayed from Sinn Fein/IRA point of view because of the way I was brought up, and what my family have suffered. This is because it brings out a long buried streak in me that I hate, bigotry. After fighting so long to be something different, to stand for something different, I find it hard to deal with the fact that hatred, mistrust and bigotry is inside me, same as anyone else who grew up here. You are kidding yourself if you think it isn't there, better to admit it and deal with it, but I wish it wasn't there at all.

Anyway, I watched it, and cried. I agree that in all probability there were IRA guns there and maybe they did fire on the soldiers…its what they do. But dear god, nothing, and I mean nothing should have lead to firing on a crowd. Some of those ppl were just holding a peaceful protest for civil rights… if you had been a Catholic at that time, especially in Derry, you would have been protesting too. Regardless of the political views I hold, the slaughter of ppl is something I have seen too much of, and I will never think it a good thing.

It was an awful day, it should never have happened… it was scary and confusing and those soldiers lived under constant threat from snipers I know…but soldiers should be trained to deal with those kinds of situations. It’s their job to keep a cool head, obey orders and not be trigger-happy. What was done that day was like history repeating itself. It only served to win more support for violence and more recruits into the IRA… all those ppl with the anger and hate bread out of that day… and then the repercussions of their actions after that.

The problems here are usually one side blaming the other while turning a blind eye to the same actions on their own side. Violence was to blame that day, on both sides, and if the situation had been handled better, if Stormount had of opened its eyes and used even a tiny bit of foresight, none of it would have happened. Watching the same horror over and over again makes me sick… will no one ever learn? I choose not to give in to it, the bigoted streak in me will never win because I wont let it.

I don't care what concessions or price has to be paid for peace, it will be worth it.

can i also point out that in the official british government report by Lord Widgery he himself stated that the british use of weapons had been, and i quote, 'bordering on the reckless' not to mention that it has been recently suggested (and there is autopsy reports on this) that some of the bullets used by the british had been deliberately damaged to make them 'tumble' in the air as opposed to spiraling normally - thereby causing a larger amount of damage to anything or anyone it hit.

i agree with kaz but nearly all children are brought up to hate the other. I know from experience that this is all over northern ireland i myself have been hit several times by a group that go around calling them selves the youth IRA and so i have grown to hate anyone that supports this group although i dont hate someone because of there religion

I think the question was - why is it called bloody sunday?

Was there an old film called bloody Sunday.

It happened on a sunday anyway.

Because it was a Bloody Sunday...doh

Of course da Irish had guns, da IRA are thugs and are out to cause trouble. The ordinary decent people who were out marching for their CIVIL RIGHTS and were in no way thugs, so why were they shot? Were they shot just for being there?

The film was a reinactment, not a drama.
It was factual. Ye're goin on about how da irish had guns, but yet 13 of them were killed, even more injured...how many Brits were killed and injured on Bloody Sunday?

I'm not one of those anti-brits irish people...but I f*****n hate people critisising the Irish for being pissed off at having the Brits in our country.
If they hadn't been in OUR COUNTRY Bloody Sunday would never have happened.

Bottom line is they were marching for civil rights, not for trouble.
Just because those british gits didn't like the irish having civil rights in their own country...there was no need to kill them, wound them if they really had to, but not kill them.
And the queen rewarding those gits who shot da irish...don't even get me started!

Read your history and you will find it was your people that gave DA brittish DA land in the first place, which means it is not DA brits fault entirely. Learn your history first in DA first place before you try to make a statment on DAsite!!

On a political standpoint. If i'd been there i would have opened fire, reasons being i'm in the IRA's backyard, i've been shot at and i'm shitting bricks!!! Sorry guys but under those scary cirrcumstances i would have opened up, especially seen as the guy next to me has started shooting.
