music and stereotyping

I hate this!
I don't know why all the little kids have started wearing black hooded sweaters and carrying skateboards. It's like they're living up to the stereotyping.
I hate that people can't seem to listen to a type of music without dressing in what they feel is an 'appropriate' way.
I like punk and ska music, doesn't mean I wear baggy pants and chains hanging from my belt all day every day. My friends have been dressing this way for years upon years and now they cant because people think they're trying to be trendy when they were basically trying to be comfortable!
Years ago they got abuse shouted at them in the street, not they look like everyone else. (sorry for long post, going off point now!)
Anyway, my original point was, people have atarted dressing in a way which proves the stereotypes and I don't like it. I don't care if people think Im a Westlife fan from the way I dress, cos I know Im not.
Erm, yeah...

How on earth do I dress to reflect that? Answer - I don't; I dress how I want, and to hell with it. There is an increasing tendency to buy in to a music culture - and follow the code of dress/skate/chains etc which is associated with it. Curiously enough, it is only for this culture.
Not everyone who buys classical music automatically dresses in suits, or tuxedos, or whatever, do they?
People should dress to be comfortable not to represent their musical views.
So, this is one of my final posts as it is, whether I end my time here on a good or bad note depends how everyone else interprets it. Not that I want to start an arguement, just want to put my point across.
Am I a "goth"? Am I a "townie"? Am I a "skater"? Am I a "geek"? What the fuck does it matter anyway? I own a trenchcoat, but I like Happy Hardcore. I have several spike collars, but I like underground "pop"...I own a skateboard...but it doesn't mean I am "following a trend". Fuck that. I could go on forever..but I really can't be bothered. The only people on here who matter about that are the ones who already know me, in which case there's no point in repeating myself.
Probably, as a general stereotypical "rule", I am a goth, but so what? How do you define "goth" these days, or even "skater" or "townie"? Same goes for "metaller", "punk", the list goes on. All I'm saying is, what does it matter, and who really cares anyway?
I know I could list all of the bands/artists I like, but there isn't much point, beings as there are a lot of single minded newbies that come across here looking for a fight, and then never post here again, no offence of course to all the newbies here, I'm sure that most of you are fine and will make great regulars..
On a final note, as a huge kick in the face to all those people who hate stereotyped people, and would therefore probably hate me as well...
I'm depressed. I slit myself open. I don't care. So what? There are thousands, perhaps almost a million people in the world who do that, no-one can tell me that they are all "goths"? I don't think so.
Long post, I know..
But..
At least I'm open.
And why is it going to be one of your last posts charley?
I've been dressing in baggies, band Tshirts an anything and recentl was accused o being a sheep because I wore something which was borderline gothic. That pissed me off bad because I dress like that because it is how I express myself, not because it is "cool".
Like my good friend Charley, I like all sorts of music, I own a few things which are "fashionable" eg, baggies, dog collar ect...a wile ago, I got a lot of abuse from wearing clothes like that..now everone's like "hey...you're cool".
I guess I'm a "greebo".
i eventually told him that i was into oasis/manics/smashing pumpkins (duh..i was wearing the hoodie!)/stereophonics and he was like "well how come you dont dress indie" i was soooo pissed off i mean why do u have to dress for the music u like?? i personally like my clothes and i wear what makes me feel good, not to show the world what music i like.
sorry i rambled a bit..but i just wanted to make my point lol
It annoys me when I'm at the skatepark and some little kid comes up to me wearing a limp bizkit hoody 4 sizes too big asking me how to ollie. And then I go to check out the latest gear at the local skateshop and the kids are there again, only this time they're with mummy pointing out this and that, loading it up on the counter.
On the other hand I've never been called a follower because everyone who knows me knows that I've been like this for ages. It is also better when I go to town seeing more people, even if they are followers, as it takes the attention away from me. I haven't heard a "Oh look at the grunger" for a week.
Each to their own, kids do what they want to do and there's nothing we can do about it.
Unfortunately.
I wonder what the next "trend" will be?
It's very typical to say ' I was into such and such a band before they were hip, it's not fair that everyone else is jumping on the bandwagon' but imagine what our parents think when we got into the Doors, Led Zep, etc.
The worse thing is it gets worse the older you become!
Grunge didn't die... it went mainstream.
Oh, and wear what you're comfortable in, it really doesn't matter. I wear what I like (which is hoodies/combats) because its comfortable. I wear the same when I go clubbing to trance/hardhouse. 'Cos what ya wear is not who you are.
I dislike heavy metal, happy hardcore, trance, rnb, most pop music and so solid crew. I am not an indie boy either, the Charlatans are shit. I mainly listen to alternative rock music, bands including Muse, RATM, Radiohead, The Smashing Pumpkins, Daft Punk, The Crocketts, Oasis, Chemical Brothers, Run DMC, The Beastie Boys, the Beatles... I could go on all night, but what would be the piont? If you don't like it, fine... fuck off and die for all I care. You wouldn't see me crying about it! C, sorry if I've got you wrong, but grow a damn spine. If you are being disrespected, stand up for yourself, nobody else will. Be a man, don't let it get to you. The world is a tough place and people will try and make themselves feel bigger by putting you down, I do it. People will always divide into groups, there will always be conflict. the world is an imperfect place.
I am a non conformist. An individual. I wear what I like and is comfortable... this has little affect on my music preference. I don't wear rockport boots with addidas trainers and a baseball cap, nor do I wear make-up and black hoodies. I don't want to be labelled. I am not a goth, or a punk, or a mosher, or a townie, or a scally... I am me. I go to grungy rock clubs, I go to posh dance clubs. I will be accepted for who I am and what I like. Some of my friends wear trainers, hoodies and flares, others wear designer shirts and shoes. They get on, you've got to accept a bit of piss take but you live with it. Nobody cries, it means nothing.
I wasn't ever a part of this devastating goth arguement, and nor do I care if children who don't know any better try and fit in. Hell, I had a Transformers jumper as a nipper, I wore it to be cool. Frankly, this national divide of Britain's youth is pathetic, and i'm as immature as the next lad. Thank God I'm getting too old to have to be in a scene anymore.
Mod or Rocker?
Goth or Townie?
Does it really matter? Who gives a toss? Be your own person and let other people do what they like because it isn't any of your business. It certainly ain't worth getting upset over. Right, now i'm heated up, I'll go and kick off in the politics forum for another rant... thank-you.
There is no point following a trend just to look cool if you don't like what you're wearing or hearing ?
I listen to what I want aswell.
If I feel like listening to Tracy Chapman I will but if I feeel like listening to Cradle of Filth, KoRn, classical music or even Don Williams, what does it matter ?...everybody likes different things so why do we all have to be labelled into groups ?
It is the music you're listening to not the "image" or the name of the band.

Well, sorry if I've got you wrong, but you? Sorry? Makes a change.
Don't give me any crap about me not having a backbone, not standing up forself, what the fuck do you take me for? I don't care if people put me down/beat me up, it saves me a job anyway. I don't care. You don't know me, I don't know you, and that seems to be your choice, you've always had a dislike towards me, I don't blame you, it's not a new thing to me anyway.
Maybe I don't want to have a huge ego full of confidence, I'd much rather sit in teh corner with a book and a pint and keep my self to myself.

Well, wasn't that pointless and boring...?
Ok, so I'm bored now, so are all of you probably, I think my time here is about complete.
What do you mean, "but you? Sorry? Makes a change"? What did I do to deserve that? I think you're confusing me with someone else. Like you said, you don't know me.
To me you seem like a weak person, "beat me up, it saves me a job anyway". Get over yourself, I understand the anger toward yourself but hating yourself and hurting yourself aren't ways to solve any long-term problems, and I'm talking from experience (although limited I'll admit). If you take shit from somebody, give it back or ignore it (be the bigger man ). Whatever you do, don't give up. Not everyone is a tosser, and that includes me. I don't understand why you'd say, "that seems to be your choice, you've always had a dislike towards me, I don't blame you" either, we haven't ever fallen out... have we? I don't recall ever being abusive to you, is this just some kind of paranoia?
Don't let people see that you are bothered about their comments or actions, I know its hard, but being slightly confident and proud never hurt anybody. I don't dislike you, you should stay around and explain to me if what I'm saying is wrong. I'd like to understand more.
Maybe you hadn't done anything to deserve that, maybe I was speaking out of turn, I don't know. Anyway, I may have you confused with someone else here, I don't know, I have been posting less and less on here. But there was someone on here, not sure who, but they always kept having little digs at me, which really got to me. Not that it actually matters to anyone else, I'm too sensitive anyway.
As for some sort of paranoia, you're not wrong there either. Like I say, I don't see that it matters anymore.
You don't seem like a bad guy, from what I've just read, but this is my last post anyway. I've added you to my MSN list if you wanted whatever other questions you asked answering.
By the way, I'm female, but you're not the only one to have made that mistake.
See you people, take care all xxx
Ah, you are female. Sorry about that, and I'm sorry that you aren't posting anymore. Is that because of anybody in particular?
Anyway, I used to be Captain Kirk, but then I shortened it to Kirk because I am not a Trekkie. I still don't think it was me, but what the hell, nevermind. I can be rude sometimes, I really don't mean it. Anyway, you seem like an interessting person so I'll chat to you on MSN (when I can get it to work). Until then, keep your chin up.
