Why is it when there is trouble at a gig/festival etc its always the townies who are involved? Deliberately trying to knock people off their feet in the mosh pit, not helping people who had fallen in the pit and rioting.

To top it all off I read in the paper today that a girl got raped while her friend was asleep in the same tent at reading.

The Music aspect of the festival was fantastic, however the violence, I would never allow the violence. the violence itself was disgusting I witnessed some of it around 2am from my bedroom window and have to say It had spread onto nearby streets and police were attacked with stones and bottles at the end of my street. on the preformance of last night, I am glad festivals are being moved away from my house in 2004, even if I do miss out on free music.

Festivals are fantastic, great music and gallons of vodka. I have been to Glastonbury('99), Leeds('00) and Reading('01). However, on these occassions I have been robbed at knife piont, involved in a riot and been in several potentially dangerous situations. It is awful, the festivals suffer and the music gets blamed. The problem is security, at Reading our (nearest) security tower was inhabited by 14 year-old girls and half-wit scotish thugs, pathetic. You are not safe or protected. It is time some real security was offered. Police with training on first aid and sorting out the drunk thieving, violent, vandal scum that ruin a unique weekend... and dirty bastard rapists should be burnt like the dickless cowards they are, a 16 year old has had her life ruined. I am disgusted. For fucks sake sort your selves out or next year I'm keeping an axe in my tent for protection.

it was bad this year. i got quite hurt in the moshpit, and my brother got punched for trying to help me back up again. 2 people camping near us got beaten for singing when others were wanting to sleep. i feel sick when i think of that poor girl <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/frown.gif">

Just thought I would high-light this point, will you people not be happy until Leeds is cancelled due to repeated riots and Glastonbury is declared unsafe due to cheap bastards jumping fences and dangerously overcrowding the site?
Artists like Marilyn Manson and Eminem will probably get blamed for the violence too. I don't like either artist, but all you knod-head rioters do.
Why burn down a toilet? It may be momenterily 'funny' but thinking back it was dangerous and filthy.
Just grow up, a festival is a time for peace, drink and music. It shouldn't be dangerous, I am sick of skum-bags ruining it.

I don't think you can blame the riots on the music of two artists, or on their fans.

To say that all the rioters like Marilyn Manson and Eminem is like saying that all left handed people are called Doris. It doesn't make sense.

Forgive me if i'm wrong, but didn't all the violence happen at leeds? And didn't Mazza and Em play on the first night? I don't see the corolation between Manson and Eminem and the riots.

I was made for a better world.

What? That is clearly not what I meant at all. I didn't blame anyone! I said that they will, unfairly, get bad hype and negative press due to the rioting of 'fans', who where at the festival.

I didn't say that the music was responsible for the riot, but contraversial artists will be associated with the violence. I am saying that people at Leeds did like Eminem and Manson, thats why they went. These people, "fans" of the artists, did riot. I was just highlighting that by being anti-social your idols (inevitably Eminem, etc) will develop a worse reputation and come under fire for lyrics glamourizing violence and rebelion.

I do not blame riots on the artists, but other people will! And Eminem/Manson fans did riot, along with everyone else. They will be blamed, unfairly. I am blaming no artist or fanbase, but all the rioters. This included me last year, but any more behaviour like this and we will suffer. Trust me, the festival will be cancelled and nobody will want to book contraversial stars, not because they are to blame but because they make scape-goats.

Jeffery, rioters at Leeds are fans of Eminem and Manson, headline acts of the festival. I don't blame them for the trouble entirely, but the stars make easy targets for the officials to blame. The fact that they played a different night means nothing, you aren't going to ruin everything while you still live there, are you?

Just a warning not to push it any more next year, it's gone far enough. Police got injured and others hurt... "heh heh, thats cool"! Don't be dicks... have a good time in an adult way (drink yourself unconscious)!

So, 'Em' and 'Mazza' aren't responsible, but could still be blamed by the bible-spunking government, etc. I doubt they are fans in the first place.

You can’t blame the artists for deliberately incising violence but the fact that they draw such a big crowd of lets be honest little shit head 15 year olds who can’t handle their alcohol is gonna lead to trouble.
That there’s no family element may have something to do with it too. Glastonbury draws a far larger and more diverse crowd than Reading and there’s not nearly so much trouble. Guildford Festival has no bother at all.
