Songs & memories

Yesterday morning I woke up and "I try" - Macy Gray was playing on the radio. I suddenly thought to my 1st year at college when I had a boyfriend who lived right near the campus & I spent my free periods visiting him. I remembered the smell of his room, the heavy rainfall that year, and everything really vividly.

Are there any other songs that bring back really vivid memories (good or bad) that anyone wants to share?

One more cup of coffee - Dylan

Travelling to Ireland in the landrover with my mum, dad, sister and brother - listening to the album Desire.
Really bad weather, camping out on the way - almost getting blown into the see while camping near the blasket islands.

There's a hardcore rip of Maddona's like a prayer and when my DJ best mate died last year they played it at his funeral. Every time I hear it now it makes me feel weird. Not upset or happy just weird.

There's a number of songs that remind me of previous girlfriends. That's not always a good thing either!

The BBC Cricket theme tune, reminds me of my grandfathers funeral, very surreal.

Prodigy - Break & Enter, my first year at Uni when I first got into clubbing, that was probably the tune that kicked everything off for me.

The Pixies, all my school days.

Sheryl Crow - All I Wanna Do...., a Uni trip to Wales, on the surface it should've been the dullest thing on the planet, collecting moss and leaf samples, but actually turned into a massive giggle from start to finish with this tune as the theme for the entire week.

    Portishead - My first g/f.

Josh Wink - Higher State Remix 96, 'cos I was at Tribal Gathering that year and got on the video to that tune!!

Right Before My Eyes - N & G Featuring Kallaghan reminds me of when I first left home and started going out clubbing every Thursday. That song would be the highlight of the evening and the next day at college it would always get stuck in my head again... But it was great 'cause it made me remember the night before and smile.

I used to listen to Skunk Anansie when this guy broke my heart (kept breaking it for over a year, actually) and whenever I hear one of their songs I'm getting really unhappy.... (not because I'm not with him though).

'Miserable' by Lit sums up a really long and painful relationship for me ('you make me come, you make me complete, you make me comepletely miserable' pretty much covered everything)

the whole of Silverchair's neon ballroom album reminds me of my second last year @ school which was a hard one for me

Born Slippy reminds me of this one day sitting in the back of my parents car when I was about 15(?) or so. I felt completetly trapped by my age/surroundings etc. but closing my eyes and listening to that song, it was like a preview of freedom and the future. still gives me butterflies now, actually.

perfect day (lou reed version) also brings back loads of feelings.

    if in doubt-dance.

I was there! Wow, I made my crowdsurfing debut at the same gig ('Pure Morning' I think)! It was an amazing atmosphere, the rain was the heaviest thing ever! What a festival; RATM, Muse, even Limp Bizkit were cool.

My song would be the "Hey Boy, Hey Girl" by the Chemical Brothers. Total euphoria in the hottest and loudest place on Earth. Dance tent, Glastonbury 1999. Fatboy Slim and the Chemicals, an amazing gig! That song just ended an amazing night, everything kicked off and I didn't even mind missing R.E.M. One off the best nights in my pathetic little life.

All mine have been good so far so I think I'll put up a bad memory.

Babylon Zoo - Is your Soul for Sale? reminds me of being 13, sitting at my desk with that song on repeat while I slit my wrists, waiting for enough blood to flow that I could relax & go to sleep.

Mines would have to be Sasha "expander". Everytime I hear it, it reminds me of the mllenium when I was a a nightclub with my bro and his pals. I was on top a podium and when the beat just kicked in, I saw the whole crowd go mad, what a way to bring in the new millenium and the buzz I got from seeing it words cant describe how good it was!! Am getting a shiver right now as I type this. Infact am going to put it on just now!!

Change the F with the w and you have got me in one :p

"Climbing up the walls"- Radiohead. It reminds me of the day my life turned upside down and I hurt a lot of people (myself included). It was the first song I played that day and I cried my eyes out to it. Everytime I hear it I feel strange, not sad, just strange. "No suprises" and "Lucky" by Radiohead for the same reasons.

For a happy memory, "Lullaby" by Shawn Mullins, because I fell in love to that song.

'Hedonism' by Skunk Anansie because it brings back memories of the good times i spent with my best friend, and says all the things i would like to say to him if we ever get back to the way we once were.

"Damn, wish I was your lover" (dunno who done it) and "If it makes you happy" (Sheryl Crow) both remind me of being a crazy teenager with my best friend 'cos we used to make up nonsensical words to them. Every time I hear them I can't help giggling.

i cant remember the exact songs for a lot of things. but they're the kinda stuff that all you need do is hear a few chords or words, and i'm transported back to times like my early childhood, my first kiss, moving house, rejection ringing in my ears, great parties, awful parties. or not even specific events - they just give you the sensation of being somewhere, feeling something half remembered. it bugs you to find out, but its better not to, because the happiness of the nostalgia rests in the brevity of it, like waking from a good dream you've already forgotten.

    as for specific songs, s'pose:

hey jude (the beatles), if it makes you happy (sheryl crow), lady (modjo), why does it always rain on me (travis), smells like teen spirit (nirvana) and a wide range of others that i just cant think of.

"we have intercourse in every direction" - Karl Marx, The Communist Manifesto (honest!!)
