First of all, I would like to thank you for teaching me a new expression in English Language. You know that English is not my native language, and I must add that expression in to my English vocabulary.
It is not even true that they have learning difficulties. They are simply absorbing every given education. The only problem is that they used to live in the institute and surrounded with adults, without any care or education. Since last year, when children’s house was constructed, they live in the home. No one is allowed to call them even patients. The NGO where I work as advisor named QEP – abbreviation for Centre for Education and Promotion has only one intention – to mix these kids with the kids from outside. My daughter accompanied me several times and now they play together very often.
Thank you again for highlighting learning difficulties for me, and I will consider it as first step in helping me in my educational process.
Having said that, the accepted term now is "learning difficulties" and it is better to say that a person *has* something (eg a person with a disability) that *is* something (a disabled person).
Take care QEP (is that your name?) and keep up the good work
What is important is that you are out there doing something good and getting a lot out of it, not criticising someones wording!
Some suggestions-I do not have a lot of experience but I have worked with autistic children. Do you know what is specifically different about these children (eg Downs Syndrome, Autism...) If you have the internet you can find lots of information.
The best thing is that these children have stimulation with other people, not just left alone and locked up as may have happened in the past.

I my native language the word “retardation” does NOT exist. I found it in the dictionary and I used it to pass to you the work I am doing. Now I know that I should not use it at the first place and I have learned the lesson. So do not worry about the word itself because in my work I can not use it because it doesn’t exist.
Anyway, I am grateful for stressing out that I am not supposed to use it in English language, as it is very rude. The only thing that I could promise at this stage is that I will not use it anymore. And I consider that it was worth entering into this discussion.
Part of this discussion, can you provide me with any literature that can be used in my job that I am doing. Any web page, or doc emailed in to my e-address is welcome
