Assistant Psychologist Volunteer work

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hello,
I am an undergraduate Sociology and Social Psychology student and I am planning to go into Clinical Psychology at phd level. This area is highly competitive and I was wondering if anyone knew of any places that would be good for me to do some volunteer wor k as an assistant psychologist. I realise hospitals are my best bet, but I was just wondering if certain ones specialised in clinical psychology issues, etc.
Thanks.

I have a friend who is a clinical psychologist, but I won;t see her until the children go back to school. I'll ask her then & post a reply if she has any answers for you

I have no idea where you are located, but there is no such position(asst. psychologist)in my experience(IL/IN/KS/CO)except for perhaps in a research capacity. Without proper accreditation & licenses it is even considered a violation of patient confidentiality for you(as an undergrad)to be familiar with an individuals specifics. Of course, I may be completely misunderstanding your question, I am a P.A., I work trauma management for our ER/EMS services, providing ATLS support to the emergency physician on duty(1 per shift). I only asked 2 guys from the psych. service about your question(a Ph.D. & Psy.D.), I apologize if this is the case. The important thing here is your vision and obvious motivation to begin very early to gain every advantage you can. I wish you luck, cheers.
