    I've told u this B4, maybe it doesn't sound like a dream job. Human resource consultancy. Man I'd love to get to work with different companies everyday, never bored.

    I wouldn't mind knowing about how to open a new nightclub/bar/cafe. We were a little tiddled on red wine the other night and decided that we had the perfect team, if we only knew how to get started. It would be such an achievement to create your own business and make it when so many others fail. MayB someday.

    Have you considered travel journalism? It is quite competitive mind, but if you really want it go for it. Look out for competitions and websites such as lonely planet and rough guide offer good advice. Another possibility would be to work for a big charity such as Oxfam or Greenpeace, as a journalist or press officer. And of course there are magazines like national geographic...
    There are two main routes into journalism, one is work experience at local papers and trying to get onto a training course with them, another is to do a degree and then an MA in journalism at a reputed institution. Talk to your local careers advisor for more information. Make sure it is acknowledged by the NUJ.
    The best thing you can do if you are serious is to get experience, write for your student paper if there is one, or try and write some articles for your local paper. You could always try doing a rant for us too. See here: http://www.thesite.org/jobs/
    Good Luck

    I've already been offered some work for a company once I've finished my A levels. I've also got some info on journalism training colleges so I'm doing my ground work hehehe.

    Thanx for the advice <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif"&gt;

    Work is awful. You're better off trying to find out how to make it on your own.
    I'm an IT contractor, I paid loads, but it is ALL just so uninteresting. I see this site is mostly for "ologies", well I have a Tenant (sideline of mine in an attempt to break free) who has just got her Psychology degree, 2:1 and is so depressed about the opportunities open to her. Currently works for DSS, hates it, best prospect so far is Bank Clerk, but pay is awful and it's not exactly exciting, is it?
    So here she is with a good degree in a topic she enjoyed, and absolutely no prospects- bummer.
    But I have fared no better, I have a big house, plenty of cash, but I have to spend 40 hrs a week being "Bored Witless". Where's the fun in that? I'm not alone here, most others here are just getting through the day, in fact, I can honestly say I have never met a happy employee.
    As you all appear to be pre University too, tell me, what is it that you think will be so great about working? And no "travel the world and meet new people" rubbish.

    it sounds like you are in the wrong job, mate. if you don't enjoy what you do then there is no point doing it, never mind how much money you're making.

    for me working means financial independence from parents, the chance to use my skills to tackle new things, meeting people (i'm sorry it's true), and a reason to get up in teh morning.

    it's been proven that the emotional well being of older people falls dramatically after retirement, cos there is literally no reason to get out of bed. i think that would be one of the most depressing things ever.

    if in doubt-dance.

    But my prblem is the same as that of the "I'm F****d" poster; I don't know, and never have known, what it is I want to do! I think those, like my wife who is a teacher, who know fron early teens exactly what they wanted to do, went for it, and enjoy it, are extemely lucky people. But there are many of us out here who are drifting from one place to another. The very existance of Careers advisers shows that most people do not know what they want to do, they need to ask others, but others can't help them with the "What do you want to do?" question.
    I'll bet that when you say "independance from parents" you don't mean you actually have your own place and are self sufficient. You live in London, apparently, so either you earn shed loads of money or still live at home. I have two sisters both of whom still live at home aged 30, but who have always had a job, they just can't afford a place of their own, at least not until they get a partner or are prepared to "house share", which I don't count as independant, just living with a different family.

    I can think of several dream jobs:

    Film Star,
    Pilot,
    Aeroplane designer,
    Jeremy Clarkson.

    If at first you don't succeed, hit it with a bigger hammer.

    Of course my first choice would be to become a Porn Star <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/tongue.gif">. I'm ideal for the job except for the fact my actins would let me down. <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/tongue.gif"&gt;

    Joking aside, next year if my master plan goes correctly, I could be doing my dream job in Austrailia. Hopefully I may become a Diving Instructer. Got a bit of saving to do yet though.
