Your careers office isn't being very helpful if that's all they suggest - try calling the main number and see if you can try another office, or a different advisor...

thank you - i have checked out the open university website - something i have never really considered! will try to seek better advice from the national careers centre as you recommended!! my local careers centre is Carlisle, Cumbria if your'e interested! They are known for being pretty useless - if you know what you want to do - great! - but if you dont they really dont offer any help.
But thanks again i will check out your advice!

Hey dont sweat it, When I left school I had a handful of gcse C's and had no idea what I wanted to do/be, except Leave education that was for sure!

I have done ceramic tiling, site labouring, drylining, marine engineering (inland water ways)temping (chicken factorys and stuff )
Power tool repairs, Swimming pool plant operator (is good job) and rolled into that was building maintance. and now at 24 I do the building maintance for Vodafone.

There are other bits and bobs too, but thease are the notable ones.

It has taken 8 years for me to find a job I want to do and I have tried allsorts and moved all over the country!

You got good grades (better than me) so look around try somthing, if it dosent plan out look for somthing else. Experiance is what you will gain thats for sure!

As I stand I am a qualified
Pool Plant operator =earns from £15,000 up
Life guard =earns £5.00 ph (tops up above nicly)
Football stuward= £7.00ph (not just for footie)
Tiler earns by the meter! £5-30 per meter
Marine engineering earns (as a banksmen I earned £250 per week)
Power tools repair for a hire firm I earned £14,300
Maintance techs as a trade can work for locall counicil, and any larger firm earn any where from £15,000 to £28,000 for elecies and supervisiors. Building maintance is a up and comming right now with many firms now leasing the builing from retail/bussiness parks and the parks owners offering the maintance in the rent.

Ok it not 4 everyone but I looked around and this is where I ended up.

Like I say I didnt know what I wanted and I'm now 24 and have only been in the job I want 10 months now!
