I don't live where you live but it will be hard to get the minimum wage at 15. If anyone does employ you it will be so they can (legally) pay you way less than the minimum wage. this is because the minimum wage of £3.70/hour doesn't start until you are 21.
I didn't get a job until 1 month before I was 17. I must have applyed for over 50 jobs, and I even had good grades.
Technically you have to be 16 to have a proper job.

It sucks not being able to get a job, but I guess the best you can do right now is a paper round.

when i said "around minumum wage" i meant anything above £3 an hour
i was refering to the old minimum wage for 18 year olds (i forgot they changed it)

don't you think teens should have a minimum wage too? paper rounds are just child labour <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/frown.gif"> !

I wish I got that.
I only get £2.50 an hour and I'm 17. I'll get £3 an hour if I stick it for another 7 months and I don't know if I can do that. There should definetely be a minimum wage for 16-18 year olds.
What i meant was that most places won't pay you £3 an hour if they can get away with paying you less.

You can't work in town because it's actually illegal under 16! I worked at a hairdressers at 13....very badly paid. Ive just got a new job as i work in a show sho now. I started at 16 and now 17 get £2.36. But my new job gets paid £5.85 up to 7.25 but they don't usually take ppl my age-just that i have extra qualifications. It's far easier to get a job once you've got one already. My advice is to try in sep when they all go to uni but at 15 you have a v. slim chance! Try your local newsagent!! but big shops like dixons, m & s anythign like that is 16! Even Asda and sainsbury's.

I was taken on by Sainsburys at 15 at £3.35 to start with (I'm still there now, but on £3.75). This does not include extra money earned by working unsociable hours, and on Sundays.

WHSmiths take people at 15 now, and you get something like £3.24 an hour to start with.

That is so unfair.
I think I need to find a better job, but I don't really need the money cos I get £30 a week when I am at college. But if I didn't I would definetely get a better paid job.
Nevermind. I'll get a pay rise next April cos I'll have been there 1 year and in May when I will be 18.

i no this thread is old, but i have personal experience of this, so here we go.
i worked as a waiter in a hotel restaurant at the age of 15. it is quite unusual tho, and u do have 2 jump thru a lot of hoops. u will have 2 ask ur local council's educational welfare office (dunno why them) 4 a work permit. unfourtunatley, it is quite strict on when u can work, and certainly used 2 say that u can only work 4 two hours on a sunday, which sux, tho no1 eva checked up on me . . . . .

as 4 pay, i got £3.70 per hr, and then inflationary rise. i also got other benefits, such as half price meals, free/half price accomodation in that hotel chain (shire inns, if ur interested) cheap use of health & sports club etc.
just look 4 gud progressive pay structures. wen i started at tesco, i took a slight pay cut, to £3.68 or sumthing, but coz of length of service rises etc i now get £5.20 per hour, which i think is quite gud, really.

neways, gud luck
