Right, whats the deal with private schools?
My m8 goes to 1, and i was looking at the website 4 it, and i saw the fees n it was £10,000 a year just for tuition!!!! (not boarding or anything)
From what i'v seen these schools aren't really that much better r they?!?
I go to a comprehensive. its ok. if u do the work, u get on. So are private schools worth the money? Who's been 2 one / is at one?

i have got a friend at a private school but i think he migh tget funny if i ask how much he pays for it! but i think he finds it worthwhile, but then hes never been to a normal comprehensive so how would he know? although he does want to go to oxford and gets very offended if you mention anything about it being full of the sort of peole youd associate oxford with in a bad way!!
ill stop my waffling now.

In Australia, I wen to a private school, tuition fees $A8,000 per year. (You gotta work that into pounds, probably around £3,500).
In switzerland, I'm going to a private NON-PROFIT international school, costing Sfr25,000 (ie £10,000).
What are the benefits of private education: smaller classes, generally better teachers and invariably better facilities, certainly in Australia. For example, no state school I know of has it's own sports academy with 3 minor cricket fields (turf pitches of course), 2 major ovals (with stadia), two gym halls that can cope with just about any game u throw at it and all this other shit i've forgotten.
Surely that helps, having the better facilites. Whether it's worht 10,000 squids is another question, mind you. But yeah.
Cos i'm thinking about a brand new hope, one i've never known, and where it goes, cos now I know it's all that wanted.
You see, rich people are by far more important than those who have less money. Why, if society was equal we could have (gulp) people from working class backgrounds running the country and worst...they might actually give a damn about equality! gee now that would be a disaster, if the poverty gap was abolished then we'd loose power and the country would become and equal society!
Seriously, in my opinion, private schools are just the remains of the Tripartite system (y'know, grammar schools & stuff) and I think it's a way of keeping the wealthy on top of society.
aint nuffink wrong with that, its probably true. Ok, it is true. But to what extent i don't know.
It's not fair coz ppl who go to comprehensives get classified as common and thick and i dont wanna b those things!

hehe thats quite true isnt it. i go to a normal comprehensive, well the 6th form part of it, it doesnt mean im any less intelligent or qualified than those going to private schools. okay so i have a friend who took A level maths when he was like 16 and got an A but i wouldnt want that. if i had wanted to go to oxford or cambridge, i damn well would have gone there, i would have made myself work hard and get the grades (m aiming for high grades anyway for my own personal satisfaction). but i dont want to go there for my own reasons, not coz i cant get there. it has nothign to do with what school i go to, i would have got the same grades if i went to a private school, perhaps slightly increased as the teachers might not be so crap in some places, but still basically the same.
and drifter i hate that generalisation too, im not thick coz i go to a comprehensive!!

ah, good ol' communism again. Hard to avoid it innit.
No, I just bring it up cos the more I learn about communism, especially the econimic views, the more it seems like a perfect solution from an idelogical viewpoint. But in practice, it doesn't follow rational economic or human behaviour. So yes and no. I'd become a young Commie if the damn system worked.
Anyway...moving back on topic...

Communism, nice concept, but so is having money growing on trees, only with both concepts we know someone will fuck it up with selfish of manipulative behaviour.
Anyway, the grammar school thing, pure elitism & meritocracy shit.
there will always b rich ppl and poor ppl, posh ppl and common ppl woteva u do.

It is okay.... i would not pay the amount that my parents have to pay for it, as i do not see it as being better than some good grammer schools etc
Some people who go to it are wasting thier money, as they would get the same grades at a comp, and would save £4,500 at the same time
With all this, you have to look at what you are getting. U are paying for a lot of stuff which u never get or benefit from, like the grounds, or when another boarding house gets upgraded, as the one i am in is a shit hole, and yet the some of the others have been done, and that is where a lot of money goes
Some people get a good deal out of it, some people would not get on at a comp., the stuck up pricks who have no mates anyway, and would be kicked shitless at a comp.
I think that it is worth it IF you want the grades, get into a good boarding house, and have good staff.
Thats just my two cents!!!

But, there are obvious advantages of private schools, for example class size. I mean, under the new AS system, at the start of the year, my psychology class had 45 people in it (not enough seats, people sitting on the floor etc), whereas i know that the local private school had a maximum of about 12!! (I'm pleased to say that many people have now dropped it so our class has about 20 people.....still a lot for an AS level course though methinks).
I think it's hard to generalise....some private schools are very well equipped, with arguably some of the best teachers available, others are less good. Private schools (especially boarding ones) tend to offer a more intense atmosphere, for example my friend at a private school has two or three hours compulsory prep each evening, plus lessons on a saturday morning....whereas, i know that i tend to cram my work into as little time as possible, and spend the rest of the time watching tv etc
Anyway, i think i'm getting way off point (did i even have a point to begin with?!!)
People Campus Surounding Area Social Aspect Teaching etc etc

lol, no, it was just a factor.
i wouldnt have fit in there.
Some of my classes have 40 ppl in it! And the same as you, people were sittin on the floor and on other peoples desks all crammed into a titchy little room, i spose its not the ideal situation to b learnin in.
So they had to move us to bigger room, but i think the worse thing is that u don't get the one to one attention fom the teacher that you need. e.g. you can't ask them to explain stuff coz they r tryin to deal with too many students! and 40 student in one class is pathetic for an A-level class but they don't have the staff or the rooms to make the class into smaller classes. it makes me so mad!!!
