Tax

Hi.

My friend told me the other day that the place she has been working at for the past year and a half is deducting tax from her paycheck, when she should not be paying any.

I said to complain, coz it was quite a lot, and they told her to send away for a form. Neither of us can find an address for her to send to.

Can anyone help us out?

She is only 17, btw.

speaking of tax, i got my first payslip from asda the other day, and apparently ive been put on emergency tax, and £53 has been taken off my earnings which is probably about a third! which im pissed off about, i shouldnt be paying tax, im only down for 15.5 hrs a week. ive not had a job before so i dont have a p45 form. apparently i have to just wait and it will be returned, within 3 months?!?! but then someone else says i have to ring someone and i get it within 3 days.

does anyone have a clue whats going on and how to get my money back?!

tax is a bastard.

I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.

How do I claim tax back?

If you know which Tax Office deals with your affairs, and you haven’t received a Repayment Claim form, you should complete a form R40(SP)(M). You can get this form from any Inland Revenue Enquiry Centre or Tax Office, together with guidance notes on how to complete it. Once you have completed the form send it to your
Tax Office. If you already receive a Repayment Claim form each year, your Tax Office will continue to send you a form automatically. All you have to do when you receive the form is fill it in and send it back.

in scotland the office is
Glenrothes Saltire House,
Pentland Park,
Glenrothes,
Fife KY6 2AL
01592 222500

and in cornwall the office is
St Austell 2 Penhaligon House,
Trinity Street,
St Austell,
Cornwall PL25 5BA
01726 624200

when you start work, from school you have to fill out a P46, your employer should give you this & send it off. it's their responsibility but it affects your tax if they don't.

you can download the form here http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/pdfs/emp2000/p46_2000.pdf

The reason you have been put on emergency tax is because you didn't have a P45 and are over 16. Once the thieving bastards (sorry Tax Office) realise this they will return your hard earned dough. Personally I'd ring them and give them a gobfull, nothing gets civil servants moving faster than the threat of a complaint...

Only two things are guaranteed in life:

1. You'll have to pay tax
2. You'll die.

Nothing wrong with lazy. Always a good idea to save your energy for something really worthwhile - like drinking

or shagging... <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif">
