Questions to ask about medical trialing

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I might be going in for a medical trial soon for a bit of cash, obviously going to find out as much as i can about it before deciding to do it or not. I've got meeting with them tomorrow to discuss it but what would be good questions to ask to find out more?

So far i only have :

What is involved in testing?
What are the risks/possible side effects?
Long term effects?
How many people have been tested previously?
How long is the testing?

So any other questions to ask would be greatly apprieciated!

What would the testing be for? As in conditions and stuff.

It'll be testing some kind of new drug or medicine. For example, my mate is doing a trial at the moment testing some kind of sleep drug, its on sale in america currently and 100's have already completed the test but the company he is with are trying to get it approved for sale in england and so need to prove its safe, or something.

Well you heard last year about the guys doing a trial that nearly died didn't you? And some came out of it with lifelong after effects. So the risks are there, although i'm sure, or hope they've got their act together.

Yeah i heard about it...you think that was the only trial ever run though? Trials have been running for years with no problems, its because of stuff like this that its best to ask loads of questions to find out every detail about their current research/findings, how tests are performed, possible risks etc..
Noone else have any questions to add then?

Yes but thinking about it, that's one time it's cocked up that badly compared to how many thousands of people do this multiple years a year for many many years.
You're safer doing these tests than you would normally be with your everyday routine most of the time!

Who will be in charge of your care and if that will change any time thruought the trial.

Along with the possible side effects, you should ask what the expected side effects are... also the possible benefits

Protocol for leaving the study (just in case)

    Responsibilities

If your taking any medication, if you can continue taking them

    Purpose

    Who has reviewed/approved the study

Well, the questions were irrelevant i guess.
I've passed out a grand total of 4 times in my whole life, 1st time when i was 18 - fell and broke my jaw, 2nd time was about 2 years later - i fell getting on a bus (no injuries this time), 3rd time was in a controlled environment at a hospital to test what was wrong and 4th time was at the medical trials centre today. :yeees:
Cant see them particulaly wanting me now...
