I'm after some 80s/ early 90s hip hop songs that tell a story..

Nice & smooth - sometimes i rhyme slow (sometimes i rhyme quick)
Naughty by nature - Everythings gonna be alright
Slick rick - Childrens story

Can anyone suggest anything similar?

    Not really from that era, but 'Dance With the Devil' by Immortal Technique tells a very disturbing but powerful story.
