Phone video editing

My phone captures video in MP4 format, I assume that's the standard format for a phone? Is there any software out there free or otherwise that lets you edit the video you record? I don't think Windows Movie Maker recognises MP4.

    Even though I don't have a Samsung any more I still use Samsung PC Studio 3 because I can convert for example a .avi to .3gp or .mp4, you can also edit moved but it's very basic.

    For editing any video I use Adobe Premiere (you can do anything you like!), but it's rather an intricate program, and for converting - Xilisoft Video Converter.
