Psychology Graduates

People who graduated with a degree in psychology! I'm graduating this year but I have absolutley no idea what I can do with my degree. I'm reluctant to futher my studies due to financial issues (£20 to my name) and being generally sick of the bullshit educational system. I've started browsing some jobs, things like support workers and care assistants but they all want either care qualificatins or experience! I'm beginning to realise that I'm qualified/trained for absolutley nothing!

So if you have a psych degree what did you do after? More studies or job? And how did you get into it? Les stress! Thx

im going into my final year of doing my psychology degree and im just starting to realise it may of been a waste of time...its gonna 3 hard years of doing a masters and a doctorate to achieve a good job in most areas of psychology.....dont know if its worth it?!...have you picked any area to specialise in or are you interesetd in doing something like social work?

You probably already know about it but I found this section of the prospects site to be very useful:http://www.prospects.ac.uk/cms/ShowPage/Home_page/Options_with_your_subject/Your_degree_in_psychology/Job_options/p!eaLfdfj

But perhaps looking at jobs in the public sector would be a good option, like with your local council etc, it is possible to get some sort of social work based jobs although if you want to progress in them you do currently tend to need specifically a social work degree.

Yeah, as the above poster has said, to do social work you need to have a specific social work degree, but you could still go in to that type of area of work, ie work at family centres, care work, support work etc how about counselling?

with regards to experience, some of that can be voluntary. CSV are an organisation that do voluntary projects for young people, might be worth checking that out, as they pay for your acomodation and give you money to live on whilst doing it, might not be what you want to do but might be worth it in the long run, as you could then branch in to support work/personal assistant type work.

i wouldn't really say its a waste of time. may be in relation to the REAL world its a waste of time but academically it has its merits like any other degree does. you don't need to necessarily do something related to psychology unless you want to... there are a substantial no. of jobs open to graduates of any discipline.
