Well I guess the main aim was to avoid anything like WW1 happening again so on that score it was a total disaster.

Another aim related to that was an international body to try and resolve diputes, led to League of nations which failed largely, and the UN, whose success might be questioned.

Some would even say the Treaty of Versailles was actually a major contributing factor to the Nazis gaining power in Germany.

Probably the biggest factor. He was very good at getting the people to hark back to the "glory days."

You need to mention woodrow wilsons 10 points - which were the basis of what the germans surrenderd on - and which then formed what was negotiated at versilles.

Also you can't forget Lausaune (I think) which was in 1921 and cleared up all the bits which wern't agreed at versilles - like who got which bits of the middle east etc.

Surely the main aim was for the victors to realise their war aims (ie Germany and allies power to be temporarily broken), for the defeated to bear the economic cost and for the allies to agree who got what bits of the defeated enemies.

Only the US was seeing it as an attempt to create any sort of new international order.

Its only in hindsight that it can seen to be different from the various great power stitch-ups which had been happening for centuries.
