Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Well my weekend has been spoiled. A phone bill hasn't gone through because i dont have the money in my account to pay it after a large amount going out and a large amount im yet to be owed not coming in. I got a letter today saying the bank HALIFAX are going to charge me an extra 20 quid on top of this and the whole lot (60) has to be paid by april the 12th. 1. How the fuck that they justfy adding something to what i cant pay? 2. What the hell am i supposed to do? My loan doesnt come in for a few more weeks and theres no sign of the good £130 im owed from a society and my phone company through yet. Im not calling the evil cunts yet cos i will just shout and swear down the phone. Can i get the charge back or taken away?

Help please.

Lloyd's are being cunts with me as well, they said while I'm paying my overdraft back they will holt any charges on my account, now I get fucking charged for being in my overdraft which means 2 lots of charges being put on my account.

First of all phone them and be calm but firm and explain your situation and they should take the charges off, don't take no for an answer, even is say they are unable to do it. their quite happy taking off charges if you got more than a few grand in your account but if you got fuck all then they charge, charge, and charge. The worst people to speak to are the people in India, they don't seem to give a shit it's all no/cant/wont with them. As it's Saturday you might be put through to a UK call centre.

Also have a look here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1141050760,24632 - it works.

Another £20 charge has come through. This time for an old phone contract that was charging me £20 for some reason. 20 quid charge for 20 quid. It really takes the fucking piss.

Because i cancelled the contract last month. They dont need anymore money from me. They already stole £60 from me essentially when my phone broke and i wasnt going to pay £75 to fix one with only 3 months contract left.

IIRC if you cancel a contract you still need to 'settle' which is the amount you would have paid anyway isn't it?

Usually, yeah. Best checking the Terms and Conditions which should be on their website.

Renzo, phone Orange but be calm and explain the situation. Best way to do it would be to hint that you'd consider staying with them if you went away satisified, cause they might not pay the bank charge for you if they think you're just gonna bugger off anyway.

While there's a language barrier, the main reason people get pissed off at Indian call centres is cause they don't get their own way and think it's cause they don't get understood rather than - shock, horror - the customer might be wrong.

Bri - I would say my experience with call centres in India is they tend to use their initiative and exerience less (referring to IT support), and will just go through a mental checklist of things to ask you and if you don't fit they'll just say access denied.

Example: NTL put me through to a call centre where I said the modem was faulty and they kept me on the phone for 1 1/2 hours doing loads of checks and being silly (like to open control panel they told me to type in the command in run rather than just start it) because they had to be 'sure'.

Scan.co.uk have English support staff who are PC enthusiasts (and often post on hexus.net forums) and as soon as you say something's off or ask a question they respond with intelligent and useful information. Probably why they're the number 1 ;)

I can see where you're coming from, and maybe stuff like techincal support would be better being UK based.

When it comes to stuff like this - standard procedures - then there shouldn't be too much of a problem with stuff being offshored. I worked for a company that had half it's operations in Glasgow and half in Mumbai. The Indians are intelligent people, you need a degree and stuff to work for a company like that. Looking at the notes on customers accounts, you can see quite often that the customer has been advised of the procedure, advised what we can offer, but they've ended up getting abusive (often racist) and demanding that they get put through to a UK department. Purely because they don't like the answer they've been given, often because they couldn't be bothered reading the Terms and Conditions of their contract.

you're always a month behind with your orange contract... not quite sure why cos they take 2 months in the first payment ever... but i always seem to be behind..

I called them this morning and they had already cancelled it after sending me the letter. At least its dead and buried now.

Now i just need to chase up Phones4U for the money they owe me! This is after ive stalled my "new" phones next bill til next week.

At least im getting much better at using the phone.

I have to admit, Lloyds have been fantastic with me.

Out of the blue 2 months ago, I received a letter from them saying they had reviewed my account, and realise they overcharged me a few times, and refunded EVERY single charge from 2001 or 2002 (i forger) onwards.

Now I didn't even ask for it, or demand that anything be claimed back.

So thumbs up to them for just doing it and giving me a nice big bonus! (which isn't really a bonus, as it's my money anyways, but it's nice to have a few years worth of charges dumped back into your account)

Ah, are you sure you didn't look at it when you were drunk or something? Or somebody else had your phone?

If it was me I'd usually just credit it back onto your account as a goodwill gesture, the Mumbai advisors can sometimes be a little bit jobsworth and stick to the rules even though you're a valued customer. Try sending an email and threaten to leave unless they sort it
