Threads Being Marked Unread After Replying

Is there any reason why quite a few times I've replied to a thread but it's marked as 'unread'?

    It's because of magic. Or possibly quantum.

    After replying, don't use "back" to leave the thread. In fact, avoid using it at all in fora, at least this one.
