Cannabis legalised

Cannabis has just been legalised for specific medical use in Belgium, and has been partly decriminalised for medical use in San Francisco.

Is it only a matter of time before this happens in the UK? It has been talked about for years, but nothing has happened yet...

What do you think?

Yeah it's bound to soon, for medical purposes if not n e thing.
It's not gonna b too long till it does, most doctors r for it, it just needs to get past the old fuddy duddys in parliament, n some1 needs to b brave enuff to try n get it put thru. I'm sure there will b no rejection, but whoever brings it up will have to face the press n probably loose their seat at the next election

im totally anti-smoking... but i think cannabis should be legalised for medical use. i have friends who use it to help relieve pain, like the woman i know with ME. i know a lot of people use it/grow it themselves for pain relief, and i think it isnt fair to make these people into criminals.

i dont think it should be legalised for recreational use. as i said, i dont agree with smoking after being around my parents for 18 years, my dad has a terrible smoker's cough, and i keep trying to make them give up, they say they want to, but when they'rve tried, they've relapsed. ok, off the point. arent the government tryign to cut down on smoking, with all the taxes? its foolish to think smoking can be banned. people will just go and get it from france or the black market or whatever. i dont know much about drugs, but i think that people shouldnt be allowed to abuse cannabis, and that for medical purposes it should be given on prescription.

i know im gonna get shot down now, by people like daze and others who smoke it. but this is just my opinion, im not sayign yours is wrong <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">

Not saying your opinion is wrong either, but smoking (physical act) and legalising cannabis are two seperate issues.

You do not have to smoke cannabis to feel its effects - so are you suggesting that the physical act of smoking 'something' should be banned? is your issue with cannabis or smoking cannabis?

What do you think about cannabis for medical uses, Amethyst?

yeah i guess im more against smoking generally, be it tobacco or tobacco mixed with cannabis, or whatever. i know i would NEVER smoke anything, althugh if i smoked cigarettes then i would possibily consider cannabis on occasion.

i dont know my views on myself taking drugs, of any kind, which sounds weird but ive been hurt by somene in conjunction with cannabis (see my long post on relationships if you want).. but anyway, this post was about legalisation adn medical use!

Personally, I think its great if they legalize it for medicinal purposes. I mean my mum is a nurse and works with people with multiple sclerosis and they have incredible pain that even the strongest painkillers can't help - and a some of them smoke. The problem is getting it, its extremely difficult for those that need it to get it. I mean really, isn't the point of criminalization of drugs to deter people from harming themselves basically - so if this is helping them and improving their quality of life then why shouldn't it be legalized.

I think it is a crime that people who are suffering from chronic illness are NOT ALLOWED access to a medicine. This is inhumane. Nobody should have the right to take responsibility for another’s life to the point of denying him or her a cure or relief - murder springs to my mind.

Taking this further we know that a large number of people are suffering or killed from stress related disease – so how can it be a crime for me to relieve my stress each day by having a small amount of marijuana to relax when in the long run this may actually save my life?

    What are your thoughts?

Yeah agreed, it's kinda stupid not legalising it, but it'll just take some1 brave enuff to bring it up

Some politician did bring it up a little while back (Claire Short?) but got severly told off. The problem is that 'middle England' is mostly conservative, stupid and blinkered when it comes to this kind of thing, and the sensationalist press just make it worse.

I'm strongly in favour of cannabis being legalised for medical use - I've seen how much it can help people with problems such as
    arthritis.

They can't stop you having a spliff before you go to the hospital lolly (lol).

I'm only joking, I've heard that canabis crosses the placenta (I've no idea of it's effects on the babe though)

Yeah, you want to be careful while you're pregnant. A large joint might be nice for you, but I don't think the baby would be able to cope with the quantity in the same way necessarily.

Go for Meptid, apparently it doesn't cause the same problems to the baby that Pethadin does.

    And back on topic lol.

I think that it would be a very good idea to legalise canabis, especially for medical use, but not just for MS sufferers.

Like Amethyst says, if there is something that can help someone, it should not be kept from them.

Not all of us do it for fun, because we know its illegal, because we know its wrong in the laws eyes or because were gonna look good if we do it.

Most of us smoke it because we have such shit lives we need weed and other drugs to help us get on with things, and what are you saying, that they should keep it ilegal so that people who really need it to help thier mental state and physical pain have to go without so that you can have fun doing it cos its illegal.
