Is taking a TV to student halls pointless? Or will I actually use it? considering the amount of money it is and that there is no communal TV.

Depends how much telly you watch. I don't really watch any so not a bother for me. I haven't watched TV all this year. The only thing I kinda miss is Match of the Day.

Be advised that if you do decide to take a telly, you'll need a licence for it which is about £120 or so.

When I started uni I didn't have a tv, but I didnt have a pc either and it was rubbish. By the end of the year I had a pc and a tv and was a much happier student for it. Guess it just depends what type of person you are.

You'll live without one to begin with. Go without one and see how things are when you get there.

Didn't watch much T.V. myself. If you're a shy and introvert person who doesn't like to socialise or mingle then yeh I'd take one.

you'll likely have a high speed internet connection in your room, so you'll be able to watch anything you like over that instead :)

poor resolution perhaps, but still good.

You could get something like the TVStick, it will give you the ability to watch digital tv over your pc and its just like a usb stick.

Many halls have a communal one, depends partly if you have a living room or not. Depends also on your flatmates. Personally I am glad to have one in my room in halls although it can be a bit of a distraction from work at times. Next year I may have to ban myself from having one in my bedroom when I move into a house.

I didn't take mine for the first term and regretted it, so took it with me for the next two terms. Made such a difference although I hate to admit that! Nice for the background noise as well, and made it feel a bit more homely.

it depends how much you watch telly really - do you think you'd miss it? you could always try not taking it at the start and then if you miss it, take it. you can always (i think) claim some money back from the tv licensing people if you pay for a whole year but don't use it for the whole year. i may be wrong though..

I didn't have one, but think having one is a good way of making friends as you can invite those that don't have them into your room to watch your fave programmes together.
