My mum and i have decided to start a diet this week,
one of her friends that she works with has been doing it since september and has lost so much weight and looks so good,
its one where u cut out carbohydrate foods from your diet,
that means no potatos, pasta, rice, biscuits, etc
i have been doing it for one day and it was ok but torture, eating egg and bacon without toast made me realise how much i love toast!
its really weird when u stop eating something and you realise how much you actually DO eat it.
Just wondering does anyone know anybody whos tried this and how was it for them? or have u done it urself...
and if u know some non carbo meals pls pls tell me so we can add them to our shopping list! heh

Its also solid protein which means your muscles wont waste away.
we've decided we are going to do it up to christmas and new year and see how much weight we've lost, then just go on a fat diet and reduce the fatty things we eat,
we've both been ill with flu lately and have been eating so much crap like crisps, buttys, chocolates and biscuits, 'easy food'.
heh fad diets - eep - im on one! argh

I'm not sure it's a very good long term soluation because you need a balanced diet, but to get the weight off, it seems to work.
The rules you should remember instead is not to mix your carbs and proteins.
I cant remember which way round it is, but carbs need acid to be digested and protein needs alkali foods - might be the other way round! So when you eat both in one meal eg.Cheese on toast, egg sarnie, cheese on bakes potato etc, your stomach needs both acid and alkali to digest it - which then cancel each other out leaving this stodgy mess resting in your stomach that cant be digested properly, leading to you putting more weight on.
Also drink lots of ater because the body starts to store water if it fears it's not getting enough for it's daily cycles, so drink more water and it realises it can cope and doesnt store it = more weight loss.
The Weight watchers/slimming world plans are best, where you have a red day and a green day - eating carbs one day and proteins the next. Makes a much healthier balanced diet.
Also if you take the cutting out carbs idea...
Take a look at foreign countries like India, Japan, China. Think what meals they eat, lots and lots of rice packed with carbs, and sauces with carbs and fat. Yet look at how thin they are. Eating too much protein and not enough carbs sends the body out of controll. Sure it loses the pounds acording to the scale but take a longer think about where the weight is being lost inside your body. You could lose 2 inches round ur waist in a week - but it doesn't mean youve lost one single bit of fat.
These diets also encourage you to eat more fat - like lots of eggs, cheese and meat. Which in the end is actually more worse for your blood and your heart. People dont care though as long as they can fit into that new item of clothing they bought 2 sizes too small for encouragment!!

i did a thing like this, it was a 3 day thing and made me feel so ill and i didnt lose anything!!! but my mate did it and she lost loads! i think it all depends on the person...
anyway, i think a lot of actors and actresses r on that diet and apparently it is very good to lose weight but not exactly healthy because u r replacing carbs wit fats and thatputs a lot of stress on ur heart and its also not good 4 ur bones.
u shouldnt b eatin yoghurts tho rite? because theyve got sugar in.

they have just halved their carbo intake and stopped eating really fatty foods but they DO still eat carbo things,
theres been mixed responses from people about this diet that ive spoken to, and to be honest im not sure i like the ones that are negative,
i certainly dont wanna fuck my body up and im not looking for a quick fix, im not really took keen on this diet any more as i dont like the thought of being more messed up long term, im not that desperate to lose weight,
i mean yeah i wanna lose it, but cutting down my fat intake to 40g per day and tryin to eat proteins one day and carbos the next sounds a lot better to be honest, ill still eat a mixture of everything, i mean i could eat chocolate and stuff as long as its just occassional,
losing 1-2 pounds per week is good enough for me, if im losing the FAT, cos thats what i want to get rid of, i dont want to be skinny, so i think im gonna ditch this diet,

fad diets are not my thing and i hate feeling like i cant eat something, ive never had an eating disorder before or anything but i have seen how easily some of my friends have gone down that road,
starting to get obessed about what they can and cant eat and thats really bad,
so lower fat, lots of exercise and splitting my shit is the way im gonna go \o/

I don't think any of that can be correct since stomach fluid is extremely acidic (pH~1) and never alkaline - not even when you take a Rennie for heartburn.
I would not recommend that.
I read an article in the StudentBMJ about fad diets. It suggests that the protein/carbo separation diet is not beneficial and that the best way to lose weight by sticking to a balanced diet and by taking plenty of exercise.
THIS IS NOT A LONG TERM SOLUTION. THIS COULD NEVER WORK FOR EVER. This would damage you I am sure of that.
I know quite a bit about weight loss, I am not an expert or anything, but I have just clocked up my 49th pound loss. I know that it sounds like such a Cliche, but really, the only way to maintain or loose weight properly and so that your health does not suffer, is good food and a proper excersise regime. I have been doing a controlled diet for the last year and a half, and I have also been going to the Gym 4-6 times a week to do aerobics and toning classes. I don't live off salad or anything, I have proper food like everyone else, it is just all about quantity and also burning off the foods that you eat too much of. It does work, it has worked for me, I have a problem and find it very hard to loose weight, people have lost as much as I have in half the time, and that is quite disheartening, but if you persevere you can make it, but please don't go too far - we have all seen Geri lately. Prime example of taking it too far.

Spirit fs can correct me if I'm wrong here, but the diet is only for a set period of something like 6 weeks or so, during which all carbohydrate is eliminated and then gradually returned to the diet over the course. It was never designed to be a long term solution, but an option for people who are willing to try anything to lose weight.
Congrats on your weight loss btw. It takes a lot of perseverance to do what you have done so you get some respect from me.

You need to persevere with diets - that's the name of the game. It may be boring to start with but when you can see the weightloss (on the scales and in the mirror) it all becomes worthwhile.
It's called the ELEM Diet. If you follow it properly then you will have gradual and healthy weight loss. Heres how.
Eat Less Excercise More = ELEM!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm trying to be sensible about the amount I eat so what does this sound like? Is this OK....
Breakfast = Glass of water bowl of all bran (I love all bran so I'm nbot torturing myself)
Lunch = Cold peppered mackerel with mixed Salad. Apple Banana. Water
Dinner - Soup and bread and Yoghurt.
I don't feel hungry and I'm not starving myself but I would usually eat a lot more than this.
This is not enough for your dinner. You need to eat enough for your body to work, or you won't actually loose weight. I know, i have tried it.
When I'm not trying to eat healthily I'd have a lot more meat, sausages, fat, curries, cheese slices, toast, etc.
All I want to do is eat enough to fill me up without feeling hungry as a result. Usually I stuff myself stupid. Im five foot five and weigh almost 10 stone. The lowest weight I've been is 8 and a half stone and that was when I was really stressed. My 'normal' weight is about 9 and a half stone.
Soup is deffinitly not enough food for your dinner, the rest of the day sounds just fine, but you really need to eat more for your dinner, also you should try variety in your food a bit, if you eat the same things all the time your body will get bored. i usually eat things like :
Breakfast: Small Bowl of Start Cereal, and a Crumpet, Hot Water with a slice of lemon.
Lunch : Small Jacket Pot, with Spaghetti/Tuna, Heinze Noodles (Very Low In Fat)Cottage cheese with Crispbreads, Lots of fruit.
Dinner : things Like :
Turkey - Lower In fat than Chicken/Beef Stir fry with Lots of veg and Rice/ Jacket Pots/ Cous Cous/ Noodles. we also eat a lot of Fish like Steamed or Grilled, Oven Chips - the McCain in the Blue bag are really nice, also Blue Dragon Sachet Sauces are really low in fat if you like the oriental type of food.
also you need to drink a lot of water, as much as you can really. and Hot water with a slice of lemon is really good for you first thing in the morning, i actually drink this in the day aswell, because i do not like tea or coffee. , i do know what it is like, coming down from 12st 11lbs, to 9st 4lbs, i am the lowest i have ever been, and i am only 5ft 1in tall. but it is something i will have to maintain for the rest of my life, i can never just give up and hope for the best, or i will be straight back up there.

Just to put minds at restI had soup, bread and a Kabanos sausage lastnight....and I do vary my diet it's just that in the run up to Xmas I don't want to pig out on Curries, chocolate and cakes.
I still believe that the only way to lose weight is to eat less and excercise more...
and do it consistently - don't give up.

You don't have to be a trained nutritionist to see the risk of becoming sick increases the more of these unhealthy foods that are eaten--like with high-protein diets.
Protein is metabolized by the liver and excreted by the kidneys into the urine. A high protein load causes damage to these organs. By the eighth decade of life people in affluent societies commonly lose about 30 percent of their kidney function (J Gerentol 31:155, 1976). This loss is believed to be secondary to overwork of the kidneys caused by the amount of protein typically consumed on the American diet, 12% to 15% protein (N Engl J Med 307:652, 1982). The Zone diet recommends 30% protein, and even more protein is found in other high-protein diets. Low protein diets (4% to 8%) are used routinely to treat patients with liver and kidney failure.
High protein diets cause serious metabolic changes that lead to bone loss and kidney stones. Red meat, poultry, fish, shellfish, and eggs are acidic in make up. Vegetable foods are alkaline by nature. The body guards its acid-base balance (pH) carefully so that all of the pH-dependent biochemical reactions take place normally. The dietary-derived acid load from high-protein animal foods must be buffered. The primary buffering system of the body is the bones which dissolve for that purpose into phosphates and calcium. The alkaline phosphate then buffers the animal-food derived acid. This is the first step in bone loss that leads to osteoporosis. The second step leading to osteoporosis consists of changes in kidney physiology caused by the acid, the sulfa containing amino acids (plentiful in meat), and the increased solute load, all resulting in a loss of large amounts of bone material, including calcium, into the urine. The presence of this bone material in the kidney system also lays the foundation for calcium-based kidney stones.
The Nurse's Health Study (usa) recently found women who consumed 95 grams of protein a day compared with those who consumed less than 68 grams a day had a 22% greater risk of forearm fractures (Am J Epidemiol 143:472, 1996). Metabolic ward studies done on people have found a negative calcium balance is created when 95 grams of protein are consumed with 500 mg of calcium. The calcium intake must be raised up to 800 mg before calcium balance is achieved (the calcium entering the body is the same as the amount leaving).
People following the Zone diet commonly consume 100 grams of protein and less than 800 mg of calcium. Athletes attempting to follow the Zone diet will consume 140 grams or more of protein a day. Even with a very high calcium intake of 1400 mg daily these people are still in negative calcium balance.
