Pregnancy - How goods are the home tests ???

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
My period is 2 weeks, late, i have been having period pains for two weeks, and my boobs are so sore, they even hurt when i walk down the stairs, and to top that off i am totally exhausted. And quite hormonal. I also have a bit of Discharge (Yuk !) which i usually get before a period.

Should i be worried. Actaully i am worried. but not sure what to do. my Periods are not always on time, usually about 30-35 days, but my last period was 1st October and i don't usually have the symtoms this long.

I have done a pregnancy test on Monday but it was negative (Thank God - my wedding is booked for May !!!) My sister says that home testing kits are rubbish, and some can't even tell for 6 weeks, i will be out of my mind by then. How true is that ??

They are usually pretty accurate because they test for hormones (cant remember which though!!) so if your not pregnant these hormones wont exist, so it makes the test negative. Take a trip to the doctors if your still worried.

Well for some people they just don't work. I have a friend who did loads of home tests:all negative, a urine test at the doctors didn't work either. A blood test is like, the accurate way of testing so I'd get one if you're worried.

they are usually 99% accurate but will be more accurate the longer after your missed period... if in doubt get a gp or family planning nurse to do one for you...

was wondering the same thing myself....im over 2 weeks late but i was on the pill for 6 years & stopped, then went on another one but had to stop that aswell. Im REALLY hoping that this is why my period is late.
Do you reckon this could be the reason?
Ive done a test at home & it was negative but ive had all the signs that im due for over 3 weeks! any opinion welcome. <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/frown.gif">

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer me, the goods news is that I came on Last night(oh, did I ever!!) . My problem is that I am not on the Pill as it doesn't agree with me, but my Twin sister who has recently had a baby, has been trying different Pills and her system is all up the shoot. She had a period in the middle of the pack, and then no period at the end of the pack. She did go to her doctor, and they confirmed that it was just this new pill change that had done it to her. The problem is, and I am not sure about you, but even if I am 1 day late you can convince your self 10 times a day that you are pregnant until the actual truth comes out. Every sign, is a sign that you must be pregnant, and no matter how many people tell you not to worry - you still worry. I got myself into a right frenzy this week, completely convinced that I was with child. I don't really know how to stop myself worrying, is it actually going to take me being pregnant, to make me beleive the home test's ? I HOPE NOT !!!

I have no reason not to beleive them, after all they are looking for a hormone in your wee, and if you are pregnant then it's gonna be there, and if your not, then it's not. fairly simple really. I wish it was that easy to stop the worry. unfortunatley when i am in this state, rational thinking goes straight out the window.

Hope you get the result you are after. Good Luck !!!

    Tina.
