Depression

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I took this online "am I depressed" test thing, the goldberd test is what it's called. I scored a 47 which is moderate to severe depreesion. It also says that because I'm haveing suicidal thoughts that I should see a doctor right away.
Seeing a doctor is not something I can do, it isn't an option for me. I have been crying ever since I took the this test. I am now more scared and confused then ever. If I'm really this messed up then, maybe I should take the easiest way out only way out I can see. I know suicide is wrong, I just can't stop crying now
I don't know Sorry

Nooo! You really shouldn't take these kind of things too seriously. Without a proper consultation, there's no way this can be accurate. If you feel depressed then maybe you should speak to someone, not necessarily a doctor, and get it out of your system.

    Karla, any ideas?

That's the problem with these online test things, they can make people more worried than they should be, or think things are worse than they are. Don't always trust something which may only have been created for its 'entertainment value' cos it might not be all that reliable. Whatever's going on, it'll help more to talk to a real person and not listen to a computer screen anlysis.

    Hi Stardust

If you are having suicidal thoughts, especially if you're making practical plans to harm or kill yourself, it's an emergency.

One of the worst things about depression is that it makes many sufferers feel too ashamed, worthless or guilty to get help. Fighting back against feelings like this, even for a few minutes, can save your life.

If you're as desperate as you sound, remember that you have to do is make one phone call. Call your GP's surgery for an appointment today.

Saying things like 'going to the doctor is not an option' is a sign of your illness if you're depressed. It's your right to get treated and get better.

About a third of the patients your GP sees every day will have mental health problems, mostly depression - it's a common illness.

If you're still having difficulty with the idea of getting medical help, please call the Samaritans, they're good people and they'll listen to you in confidence, and help you sort some way of making things better. Their number is: 0345 909090 and they're available 24 hours a day.

We have some more information here that may help:

I know going to the doctor may sound like something u can't do, but sometimes it is the best thing to do. I say sometimes, coz when i finally plucked up the courage to go, i went on my own, and told no-one. The doctor made me feel worse, and wasn't much help, but at least i gave it a shot. Loads of ppl say it does help - they can put u in touch of other ppl to talk to, or sometimes just listen to u and advise u on what to do. The best adbice i can give is do what you want. Don't be pressurised into anything u really don't want to - coz u'll go with a negative attitude, and come out probably feeling worse. Try and keep smiling - i know its hard, and u'll probably be shouting at ur computer telling me to f*** off (!!!!) but u can always come on here and write whatever is in ur head. No-one will judge you....if u ever wanna chat, my e-mail is debbiestephen@hotmail.com. Take care, and don't take any rash decisions.

Why wasnt your docter any help when u went? Its not really encouraging to hear and its certainly no reason to not try another option and see a different GP etc.

Im really sorry to hear u were like this stardust...i am also sorry that u dont sound like u feel there is really a problem when u were suicidal and thats not how anyone should have to feel. You may be ok now but u were not ok that night and if this happens again or has happened a few times b4 then its not something u can pretend isnt there just coz u feel better the next day etc.

Please if this is happening a lot then get yourself some help, there is only two ways out of this and the best way and the way I hope u choose to go is to let yourself get better by getting some help...the other way to go isnt even worth me writing as u dont deserve that and i dont wanna see it happen when i know u can get through this!

Hey, Stardust, I took one of those depression tests too (the same one I think) and I got between 58 and 68, so you honestly arent alone. I know what you mean about not wanting to talk to a doctor, I cant face admitting my problems either, but please dont think that death is the only way out- it isnt.

If you feel suicidal, think of all the good things in your life- friends, family, etc- and try to stay positive. Think of all the people who will be hurt if you kill yourself.

It works for me anyway! Good luck mate, you aint alone!

It matters not who won or lost, but how you place the blame.

I took an online depression test a while ago and I think I got somewhere around 47 too.
I didn`t really take alot of notice of it but it just confirmed what I already thought.
There`s no way I`m gonna go and see a Doctor or a shrink, or talk to people, its no ones business but my own. I probly can`t deal with it by myself but I`ll find a way.
I can always hide it. As far as my parents are concerned its a miracle I came through the family troubles as well as I did (if only they knew) so I`m obviously a good liar.

Email me if u need someone to talk to.
