Vitamin overdose?

Is it possible to overdose on vitamins? I already take a one-a-day type vitamin supplement but it doesn't include all of the different B vitamins that I would like to take so wondered if I could take a separate B vitamin supplement as well?

Absolutely! Overdosage on some vitamins can kill, cause liver damage etc (e.g. Vit D, Vit A, etc). The best guide is to go by the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) which is usually printed on the bottle. If the vitamin you are after is not included in your multi-vitamin, be careful about taking any seperately as it might not be included for a reason i.e. enough of the vitamin is received via a normal daily intake of food. A doctors advice would be preferable.

Yep! Marmite is a well known source of Vitamin B - just watch your salt intake with it though 'cos it's full of it ...

the RDA shows the minimum of that vitamin you need each day to avoid deficiency not how much you are allowed to take.

You should be able to take extra b-vits because the strength needed to overdose is a lot and they dont sell them that strong, but as long as u r sensible and follow the label then you cant go wrong, but i would give urself a break after amonth or so and then leave it for 2 or so weeks and then continue. its not really a long term thing...
