I'm going to send her some Flowers over. Seeing as she lives in France now, bet it'll cost a fortune to send too.

I have bought my mum a mug which says 'be nice to your kids - they'll choose your nursing home' :D I'm also going to go halves with my sister on a pampering day for her, i think :)

I have got her her fav perfume and two cards. One says "to mummy from your little boy" but looks dead girly. Going to see if she says anything to me when she opens it. My guess is she will just open it, read, notice and say oh thanks ashlee its lovely ha but I got her a proper card too. Might pick up some nice belgium choccies too at end of the week, she deserves it!

Do you think this about everything?

Not everything, but most things are commercialised bollocks these days. At least Mothering Sunday is a proper celebration, rather than some made-up shite like Valentine's Day or Father's Day, but like everything else its been hijacked by Hallmark and Interflora.

That's why it will cost me a fortune to get flowers sent on 18 March, but on 25 March it will cost half as much. Go and see for yourself.

I normally make a point of getting a present either a few days before or a few days after. I was in hysterics when I bought 12 red roses (for me as a treat) from Tesco for 20p on 15 February. Better than £20, I can say!

You don't have to buy into the commercialised bit though - I get my parents a card on Mother's and Father's days, and I'm going to cook my mum a meal. That won't cost me anything because I will use food that's already at home! Hehe. My dad doesn't get owt for Father's day because he isn't fussed really.

As for Valentine's day, a bottle of beer always goes down well and that's the same price all year round ;)

You're right Kermit, which is why i'm cooking lunch for my mum on sunday instead of going out, and i bought her presents some time ago :D

Even the bloody cards get more expensive. I'm just amazed the postal service don't bump their prices up too.

I'm not tight with presents, but I really really don't like the rampant commercialism that seems to have taken over in the last 5-10 years. 10 years ago you got a card on Valentine's Day, and now you're a bad person if you don't spend £250 on the flowers, the teddies, the wine and the slap-up meal. What a load of shite.

I would cook, but it's hard to cook from 150 miles away;)

Father's Day is a fabricated event, created as a "response" (i.e. money-making exercise) to the traditional Christian date of Mothering Sunday.

As with anything, it's what you make of it. I'm not a skinflint, I just see more value in other things, rather than what it cost. I'd rather have money put away for a fllat deposit than £250 of roses! Or the equivalent, you know what I mean.

As for cards being expensive, why don't you make one? ;) Mums always like things you've made best, at least mine always insists she does!

Also with Father's Day being a fabricated event, that's a bit irrellevant really as there's nothing wrong with appreciating both of your parents rather than just limiting it to mothers! When I was a child I was always a bit disgruntled that there wasn't a day for daughters to get cards and presents, talk about inequality :grump:

its annoying that my mum is a florist, as i think she would hit me over the head with a bunch if i bought her some, or critisize that they were dying or too small or too big.....maybe some chocolates? But then i'm travelling down to cornwall for an interview on thursday, so maybe i can make myself an early mothers day present, as she hasn't seen me since december..

I'm going to get my mum the ugliest card ever with ribbons on and one of those skanky poems on the inside just to take the piss. Tehe

I do agree about the commercialisation of Mother's Day, but I do normally do something. I'll make mine a card, and I have got her a lovely little basket with some hyacinths and narcissi planted in it, which I know she'll like.. she loves flowers. The lovely thing about my Mum is that she'll act like it's a complete shock and she hadn't realised the date, bless her! It makes it all the nicer to get her some nice flowers :)
talking of Father's day, I only ever get my Dad a card, and that's probably all he'd expect. He's hard enough to buy for twice a year :p

I always get a card but she a pain to buy for and will never tell me what she wants. I have no imagination when it comes to gifts most of the time anyway.

    Ditto

It's probably easier for her to buy something, give me the money and say that's my present to her.:chin:

I can't afford to buy a present and send it in the post or buy some flowers (as they are at least £30 for a nice bunch) so yanno.

Where do you buy your flowers?!

They're cheaper if you send them by post. I sent my mum a box of asiatic lillies with some chocolates and a message card for £16.

My Mum is coming down to see me on Saturday, so I'm going to take her out for a meal then. I'll also buy her a card and some flowers to take home with her.

I didn't even know it was coming up. Oh well, my mom's on the other side of the country until next week, anyway.

:chin: Might be wrong, but cos you said 'mom' I thought maybe you're american... I dont think America's mother's day is on the same date as here.
