panic attacks

I was wondering if anybody has had a severe panic attack. Most of you will know wots going on in my life right now, but recently, for reasons i wont go into, i had a severe panic attack. I didn't know i was having one, i was too busy shitting myself coz i couldn't move my fingers, and i couldn't walk without collapsing!! But, the people who were there to calm me down and talked to me (who were absolutely fantastic) said that its likely i'll have another one. This scares me. Is it likely i'll have another one? It was one of the most terrifying times of my life, and it went on for about two and a half hours, and throughout the night i didn't sleep, and my breathing was still really fast.
I don't really remember going into the state where i wasn't in control - i remember realising that i couldn't move my fingers, and my legs were constantly in cramp. Any advice would be gr8 - thanks very much

Ive had a cuople in the past but dont remeber them really as I was having a breakdown at the time lmfao...bit of a blur!

My friend used to get them all the time and its really frigtening to watch coz all u can do is reasure them etc.
I read in a magazine earlier about them as it happens. They said that you have to kind of hypnotise yourself, or train your mind to control the situation and focus on your breathing etc. Take deep breaths, slwely and tell yourself u will be fine and u r in control etc. Try focusing on a place where u feel safe and being with someone who u care about and will help u feel at ease.
Its a difficult one but not something u cant get better with. My firned dont have them anymore really, and it didnt take her long once she realsied she could take hold of the situation and help herself. Breathing is probably the most important, as lack of oxygen is what makes u feel dizzy and collapse so long deep breaths r a must and basically learning to control the situation and focusing on something else is what I think would help

It's alright my Mum was having panic attacks a few years ago and that was when she was about 43 yrs old! It can be from the stresses of work, but I tell you it fucking scared me when it happened. she sort of became a bit irrational about stuff sometimes and had trouble breathing. Once she couldn't go to a footie match because it was stressing her out too much.

It can be a variety of reasons. She seemed fairly happy apart from that. You don't have to be depressed. I'd say see a doctor. They sometimes give you Valium. Please try and get some help. It'll be worth it........
Good luck.

I really don't want to have another one...i'm really scared. The only person that i know could help me, is the same guy as last time - but he's down in stafford. He was a tutor at my drama course, and he was brill - we got on really well, and he seemed to actually care. But, i asked his brother, who was also on the drama course as a student for his e-mail address when i got home, and he said that his brother cant give out personal details. I had hoped that i could e-mail this guy when things got tough, and he could tell me wot to do - but now i don't know what to do. The last panic attack really terrified me - i couldn't walk without collapsing, and my whole body was in cramps - my fingers were bent over and my shoulders hunched. The tutors had to massage my shoulders and fingers for about half an hour, and even then, they didn't improve much. I couldn't go through that agin. But i don't want to go to the doctors for one measly panic attack:i feel like a drama queen. But i'm just really scared.

Its clearly not just a measley panic attack if u were in that kind of state and u r this worried about it happening again. Also worrying so much is only going to make it more likely to happen so u have to try and not worry so much, even if it is really awfull and hard etc.
There isnt realy many other options other than seeing your docter...they will be able to help u with this the best and the quicker u get to see them the quicker it will get sorted out. Goodluck

My first panic attack was majorly frightening, as i didnt know what was happening & thought i was going to die! (thats how bad i was) it lasted all weekend (day & night) i didnt want to see a doctor as i thought he would just say calm down.
As it went on so long i gave up in the end & called the doctor out (by this time i couldnt walk). He gave me some tablets which would slow my heart down & some other ones to basically knock me out.
After that eventually i seeked help as i didnt know what to do if it happened again.
To try not to go on to long....take your mind off it if it happens again, watch tv ect...it takes a bit of practce but really works. you have just go to remember that the worst that will happen is you will pass out (its not that bad).

Hope this helps as i know how frightening it csn be.
Good luck!
