Bipolar?

Does anyone know much about bipolar disease?

My cousin has been diagnosed with it- she gets very moody, suicidal and now has to take medicine daily to keep her at a normal balance.

Is there no other cure?

i dont know a lot about bi polar to be honest, im not even sure whats goin on with myself at the moment to be honest. i think it is eventually cureable in most cases, but im pretty sure it should be combined with some kind of psychologicla help or something. its not that unusual to be on that kind of medication, but do u know exactly what shes on?

teh best thing i think you can do is to support her and let her know that u and her family are there for her if she needs you, without being too pushy.

I have to admit, i don't really know much about it but i should imagine as long as she takes her medicine the balance should be constant and eventually be rectified? I know this really won't help but there was a woman on ER (the hospital thing) with it a few months ago, don't know what happened to her though <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/frown.gif">

Well, I am not much of an expert in bipolar disease, however I came across that while studying psychology.

Is she suffering from depression?
if you know what medication she is on would be useful, is it Prozac?

Just thought that you might like to know that bipolar disease is often called 'manic depression' in the UK. It can range from mild to extreme symptoms, and can often be controlled with medication. A common treatment is lithium, although other drugs are used too.

Thanks for all of the help!

My cousin has been having a really rough time of it- she gets very depressed (and has been having a lot of problems with her boyfriend which makes the situation even worse) and still lives at home so stays up at night, threatening to kill herself. My poor aunt has to stay up with her and try to reason with her.

She has been taking medicine - not Prozac, some other prescription- but doesn't like anyone telling her what to do so it makes it hard on the family when they just want to know if she has taken the meds. If they ask, she goes crazy.

I'm just scared that she's going to be like this for the rest of her life- she's 20 now and was diagnosed about a year ago- but it's gotten really bad since summer started.

Anyway, I will refer to the websites and see what else I can find about it.

mania depression, or bipolar depression so one moment she is on top of the world and the next, she feels depressed to the bone..

Most people diagnosed with this disorder are those young adults, and the good thing is, it says here most of em' do recover!
