my nan and breathing difficulties

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Some of you might have read my livejournal about my nan being ill. She’s findin it really hard to breathe apparently and my aunt went round there today and said that she looked really bad. She’s a really heavy smoker and won’t go to the doctors even though she can barely breathe and can’t sleep or anything.

And then my aunt foned ,my mum to tell her and then my mum started crying and tried to phone her, spoke to my grandad and heard my nan in the background and then when she asked to speak to her, my grandad lied and said she was out.

And everythings really weird because she won’t go to the doctors and won’t talk to anyone and no-one knows whats going on and everyones really worried and stressed out and upset, and I want to help but I don’t know if I can.

Now theyre talking about moving her down here to be around us and everything and it sounds really bad and im kind of expecting the worst but also trying not to think about it. And everything was fine a couple of hours ago and then the lady next door came round and my mum just broke down in tears and god this is so weird.

Everything’s weird at the moment. Why won’t she see someone? Why won’t she speak to us? What can I do? What if something is seriously wrong?

I'm not really sure what to say..just the main thing is try not to worry. I know its far easier said, than done, but worrying won't make a difference.
Try and talk 2 ur mum - she'll want and need support. Perhaps they're not telling u anything, coz they're trying 2 protect u, or mayb they're just nt thinking.

Go up to ur mum, and ask her wots wrong. Explain to her that ur worried, and ask her to tell u wot's going on.

I don't know if that helps, i hope so.

ahh! im sending you a big hug Drifter!!

Your nan probably doesnt want to talk to anyone because shes used to being independant, and doesnt want to feel like shes being a nusance to the people she cares about.

Also, shes used to being the "strong" one, looking after her family (your mum), when they were ill or in trouble, so it'll be weird for her to feel like shes relying on the people who she thinks should be relying on her. Its a matter of pride really!

Dont know if all of this information will apply to you, its just the idea that i got from reading your post. Hope it works out for you, keep smilin!

You every thought that she might be just as scared as you?

As you get older you start to appreciate your own mortality. Friends and family start to die and it brings reality home.

Give her lots of hugs, tell her you love her and be a good grandson (i'm sure that's what she would want for you)

    Hope she's okay tho' dude.
