scars

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hello!
I have a scar on my arm from when i had the TB injection.
I really hate it as it is really quite big and because of it I cannot wear any tops or dresses that show it.
My friend heard on the radio that there are plasters that if you wear for a certain amount of time will reduce the scar.
Has anyone else heard of these plasters?
Or know of any other way I can get rid of this problem?
Thanx in advance!

Not heard of those plasters myself personally, but being quite hhmmm experienced with scars through different reasons, I'd say the only way they reduce is over time. But i have heard of some oil that if you use once a day helps reduce the scarring? Anyone else heard of that one?

thats right, u can get them coz my friend has a scar and she uses them and it VERY SLOWLY reduces it but not totally. I'm not sure where you can get them but look out in magazines...yuo know those annoying plastic surgery ads that u get in the back they sometimes get posted in that area. I'll try and get in contact with my friend and ask her...also, try your doctor!

im gonna put the shit up ya now

my mate had his done and they put too much of this dormant disease in, which is what they inject, and he had a reaction to it and in a way "caught" the disease, causing his scab to swell right up, go scabby, pussy, bloody etc and be bloody painful

took about a year to go to what everyone else's was like

Well MD the scab from the TB injection usually DOES go scabby, pussy and bloody .. they tell you that

Stick to what you know about .. nothing

I have heard of these plasters and not tried them myself but to be honest they probably aint that effective. U r probably better off massaging moisturiser on the scar daily, this is effective if u do it all the time and although u wont get rid of the scar it definatly helps it fade. My sister had a nasty scar on her forhead and she was told to do this...its now hardly visable at all.

Dont worry about the scar and hiding it, its nothing to be ashamed of. At least u have an explanation for why its there unlike those of us with dodgy scars up our arms, legs and god knows where else and no convincing story to explain what they r

    Hi Sweet

You can get these small sheets at the chemists that you cut to size and put on the scar every night for a few months. If you follow the instructions carefully, the manufacturers claim a 90% reduction in the size of the scar. Dunno if they work or not though. I do know that they only work on raised lumpy scars, rather than the sunken or pitted type of scar. Might be worth a go.

I think there are 2 different brands on the market at the moment, and one of them is called CicaCare.

My lady uses a scar-reduction cream called Creme de Mare (?) which is incredibly expensive (=£60 per 200g or something silly) but does work. I've seen some of her scars very slowly fade to almost nothing. It was originally developed by a guy who had half his face burnt off and couldn't find any effective scar reduction creams so came up with his own. As well as that she also recomends moisturising everyday to keep your skin in good condition.

Also, I wouldn't worry to much about showing it unless it's dripping pus or something, I don't think scars are particularily ugly or unsexy and can in fact add character. Two of my friends have massive 6"-plus scars from surgical ops and they don't have qualms about showing them.

creme de la mer or something "mer" being french for sea.

i really dont think you should worry sweet, its only from the TB injection and EVERYONE has them. some are more noticable than others, but it just means youre not gonna get TB so just learn to live with it

as opposed to yourself, who thinks the TB scar is meant to swell right up, be painful, scabby and pussy for a year and the actual disease should be detected in the blood tests?

I too have quite a large scar from my TB injection. it is about 1/2 a centimetre across. My mum has still got a tiny scar from hers and she had it done over 30 years ago.
Why does it bother you cos I always forget I have a scar until I look at it.
I had my TB injection about 5 1/2 years ago.
I can see my scar a lot at the moment cos I've got quite tanned.
I keep forgetting I have scars at all. I also have a small one just on my upper lip.

Thanks a lot for all your help!
I think the reason i have such a bad scar is because after having the ijection it went scabby, pussy and bloody...(for 8-9 months)...which was quite horrible!
I used to show it in strappy tops and stuff, but once some1 made a comment about it being like a 3rd nipple (!) and i havent been able to show it since!
Ive found the strip things in the chemist now, i think i will try them as anythings worth a go.
    Anyway, thanks again!

    aaanyway...
well i aint seen none around as yet, if i come across some ill give them a try. i know u can get steri strips which help teh scar to heal better, but i think ure on about somethin else

sounds like a useful invention or whatever, so i might check em out and let u know if they work or not, although i wouldnt worry too much if ure scar has a reasonable explanation behind it, like lolly said

These sheets will work on raised scars if you apply them regularly for several months. You can sort of 'even out' the scar. You can't make the scar small, though. Also, if you suffer from ugly scarring chronically, the sheets won't stop the growth of the scar.
