Cramp

Anyone know what you can do to relieve the pain when you've got cramp? I keep getting it in the backs of my legs, I woke up like twice with it last night and about 4 times on Saturday night <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/frown.gif"&gt; and it really kills, and my legs are sore in the morning.

I usually just rub my leg until it stops hurting, and I tried getting up and walking around but it hurts even more, so can you do anything else to stop it hurting quicker?

And is it a sign of anything cos i never used to get it but I've been getting it sooooo regularly and like I said its been waking me up and everything.
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

I get this really bad, normally after sleeping funny, or doing loads of exercise. Really there is nothing really that can be done, try some pain creme or spray and thats the only thing that can be done

Try stretching it. It doesn't always work, but I find that if I hold my foot and stretch my leg out the cramp sometimes gets a wee bit better.

    Hi ElisaKate,

If you are getting cramp that wakes you up in the middle of the night, it would be a good idea to mention this to your GP.

That's true in tropical countries, because of sweating more. But in the UK the average person eat much more salt than they need.

Best thing to actually get rid of it is to force the muscle to work.. for the back of the calf, try extending your heel (as if you were trying to leave heelmarks in the ground)

You should go to the doctor's though, cos that way you can know if it's not enough salt, not enough water, or some other thing that's wrong.

My Dad gets cramp sometimes too and he puts a bit of salt on the back of his hand and licks it off. He says it works for him, so maybe you could try it.

I've just looked up cramp in my family health guide and it says:
    Quote:
Cramp can be relieved by massaging or stretching the muscles involved. If cramps occur regularly at night, your doctor may prescribe a drug containing calcium or quinine, which can help prevent painful recurrences.
If cramps persist for longer than about an hour, they are likely to be due to a more serious condition and medical attention should be sought immediately.

    Hope this helps Elisa.

    I used to get cramp a lot when I was dancing at college and the best thing to do is sit on the floor with your legs out in front of u and pull you toes and foot back towards u. This stretches out the muscle and it goes straight away <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif"&gt;

I vaguely remember my dad taking some over the counter medication for cramp he gets it bad. I think it's called Crampex.

I know when I've have cramp and it's usually been bad that I've limped around for days, generally keeping my leg warm has helped, aswell as a few visits to the health suite at my gym <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif"&gt; (any excuse <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif">)
