You're right. Though everyone there referred to it as Burma, very confusing for the likes of me when trying to be right on!

It is a really, really interesting/weird place. We only stayed for a couple of days as the reason we went was to celebrate the Full Moon of Kason festival and even maybe that was a bit ill-advised. I remember the day before we headed off we were hearing all these tales of rebels storming villages to kill locals who were fleeing all over the country. So yeah, we were a bit freaked out by being the only travellers around.

I don't remember a lot other than the festival which involved a lot of eating and music... as the only other things we did were visit the Mingun bell which we were told was their version of the Statue of Liberty (it was friggin' enormous) and sit around in the back of a disused truck chewing kundhi wrapped in banana leaves. Cue a strange kind of buzz that only effected half of your body, and spitting red goop onto the floor every ten seconds. Cultured!

The most memorable thing I took away from the experience was the knowledge that the men there were absolutely riveted by anything digital or vaguely female looking. They all had these completely retro Casio digital watches which they thought were the shit :D When I showed them my pictures from Thailand on my DIGITAL camera I thought they were going to explode from excitement amidst all their "HEE HAW"ing and rubbing of our legs like they were trying to start a fire. Strange, strange country.

Indeed, I've wanted to go to Laos for ages, but I just dont have the funds unfortunatley. Myanmar seems a little rough and ready for me, although having negotiated my way through Jo'Burg it cant be that much more dangerous.

boy I am jealous of wyetry and briggi, I never got to travel around much as a kid except in the UK (lived in London, Kilwinning, Manchester, Salford, Liverpool, Birmingham, Gloucester, Essex, Kent, and London again!)....

    Places I've been abroad:

    India
    France
    Germany
    Holland
    Morocco
    Switzerland

That's about it, but I'm making up for lost time, off to Prague on Wednesday  then HK/Phillipines end of March....if I can't get moved to the Australia office I'll probably pack in this 9-5 malarky after Glastonbury, disappear for a few years and see where I end up.....

    USA
    France
    Spain

that's it - was going to be going to belgium with the school this week but the trip got cancelled because no teachers would come. France was only a crappy school trip to calais and spain was a shitty package holiday with an ex friend when i was 12.
Can't believe how many places some people have been. :(

Ohh i've been there as well.

Part of the reason why i've been so many places is that my dad lived abroad for quite a lot of the time I was growing up - therefore we normally had holidays based on where he was working/had a meeting etc etc - that and the fact that i'm kind of obsessed by going on holiday - I have to leave the country once ever two months otherwise I go into some weird depressive state that i'm going to get stuck here forever.

    England
    Wales
    N. Ireland (I was 3, and I can't remember anything, but I have been there)
    France
    Belgium
    Spain
    Turkey
    USA (NYC and Florida)
    Peru
    Tanzania (about 5 times)
    Kenya (twice)
Uganda (if waiting for 3 hours on a runway counts :p)
Holland (well, an airport in Holland :o)
And Zanzibar, although that is part of Tanzania (I think).

I think that's it. Going to France again in April, going to Kenya again in May/June, and then France AGAIN in December (I blame the boy and his parents). I am also thinking of planning something next summer, but it's still in the thought stages atm.

Yep I thought that too. Or I am thinking you have high flying careers where you can book fortnights of every like 3 months.

I have only been to spain twice with the parents and Greece once. Probably going back to Greece again too this year but then that will be it, then I will have to fund my own holidays  :(
