What tastes better re-heated?

**helen****helen** Deactivated Posts: 9,235 Supreme Poster
So Jim V is having re-heated pasta for lunch today :yum: , and Kimono and I were agreeing that home-made re-heated lasagne tastes better than when it's first cooked.

I also really like re-heated curry.

Any thoughts on this?

Definitely curry. Time allows the spices to mix better and the taste improves. Or so I've been told!

Yeah, things like curry and chilli always taste better the day after... or the day after that :yum:

I'm not a big fan of reheated pasta. I do eat leftover veggie lasagne and occasionally pasta and sauce the following day, but always cold.

Chinese and Indian food. Yeaaah. I wouldn't say it tastes better, just different but in a oh my gosh yes sort of way. I know your not supposed to fanny about with rice but i've survived so far!

Any meat dishes (mince is best) with a sauce taste better after they have been left (it's not the reheating) as they marinate.

I love indian the next day, but cold. Sometimes warm. I should probably heat the rice up though :nervous:

Homemade curry and soup like SCC said, and also veggie minces and chillis as briggi said. Mind you when I'm at home things like that never get the chance to be reheated as it all gets eaten on the first sitting!

Hmmm, things like curry I would heat it, but it isn't necessarily better.

Things like pizza are better cold IMO. Cold pizza for breakfast is just lush.

I am a big curry fan, and learnt to cook a cracking madras or vindaloo from the best curry chef I've ever encountered, my old man.

It's not just a story about leaving curry to get a better taste, as once the spices have started cooking, they will continue to release flavour over time, even if you freeze it. Personally, I do a curry sauce on a wednesday, leave it in the pot, then add the meat/veg and have it on the friday.

Lasagne is really good when re-heated, but not as good as fresh...

There are meals tho that taste even better when re-heated.
That is bread dumplings (Semmelknödel), either with sauerkraut, or in a gulasch. Potatoe Gulasch or gulashsoup are better when re-heated too.

NOthing tastes all that good reheated. If you are lucky its bearable enough not to starve (sadly, most my meals by myself are of the above), but most tastes of poop.

    Lasagne is lush reheated
As are jacket potatoes, baked beans (when they go that sort of sticky texture) and chinese is pretty sweet. Pizza is most definately a food to be eaten cold though :yum:

Don't like reheated pasta or pizza.

Home made shepard's pie is better reheated though.

Well the pasta was very nice :) But I'd agree that the best re-heated leftovers has to be lasagne - although rehated savory pancakes with a good cheese sauce and quality mince heated up in the morning is one of the nicest tasting things in the world.

Well I quite like cold pizza.

Lentil dishes are not great to reheat.

Good point - probably should have called this thread "what tastes better the next day" :)

Stew, the sauce thickens when heated again. Then all you need is a couple slices of bread :thumb:
