I'm currently 6'3"ish and I'm very skinny!!! I want to try and put on weight and I hear some foods help put on weight more than others. Which foods? I'm also thinking of joining a gym!

Life is like a beautiful melody, only the lyrics are messed up

    Well we must be at the opposite ends of the spectrum Broken Heart.

    Trouble is, all of the weight gain stuff I know gives you fat, not muscle lol.

    I think you'll need to eat high protein dairy foods like eggs & cheese, but don't quote me on it. lol

    Joining a gym is a good idea because you'll be able to build up muscle, and muscle is heavier than fat.

    Whatever you do, steer clear of steroids!!!

    Nah I just want to know what foods to eat to help me put on fat! I can turn fat into muscle at the gym. I would NEVER touch steroids!

    Stay off the saturated fats! They will just fur up your arteries. Not all fat can be turned into muscle, so watch out.

    Borken Heart, u should go to the docter and ask for some nutricien drinks that r specially for gaining weight. I think u can probably get em anywhere but Im sure that the ones I had were only through docters. I was given them in hospital when I went a bit too far underweight and they r really good.
    Im sure if u explain your reason for wanting them and if u r quite skinny anyway the docter should b able to help u out <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/wink.gif"&gt;

    It's best to tone up your muscles instead of put on weight.

    Just to let u know that fat and muscle are two different entities. U cannot turn fat into muscle but u can burn off fat and build up your muscles.

    To build up bulk u need to eat more starchy carbohydrates such as pasta, rice and potatoes.

    Eat plenty of protein such as lean chicken and egg. Try mixing a raw egg into a glass of milk and drinking it every morning if u can stomach it.

    U still need fat in your diet but try to eat more good fats. Saturated fats r the problem so keep those to a minimum and try to keep sugary carbohydrates to a minimum also, to be healthy.

    Try reading some body building mags for tips on what weight routines to do in order to build bulk.

    If u have a low fat to muscle ratio it should be quite easy for u to obtain muscles with the right diet and exercise routine. It is actually harder for people who are fat to build up defined muscles because fat hides muscle definition. This is why it is harder for women to achieve definition because the average woman has a higher fat to muscle ratio than the average man. Women who are muscular r either genetically gifted and dedicated to the gym or take hormone tablets or steroids.

    I used to be a part time gym instructor when I was at uni, in case u were wondering <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif"&gt;

    Best thing to do is join a gym....

    There r two ways to train u can either build or tone.
    To build it's best not to do pressups n other thing.
    U have to lift heavy weights a small amount of times.u should only b going for like 5 reps every time. don't go from doing 5 to 6 go from doing them 5 times then putting the weight up n keeping it 5 times.

    Unfortunately with some ppl its just about impossible to get real big.. u gotta have big bones to start with to get real big.

    I used to work out loads but gave up.. cos quite simply it's for poofs who wanna look good cos they got no personality.. the only reason I go to a gym now is to keep healthy not to build muscles.

    I prefer more social stuff like football, tennis or hockey etc.

    Martial Arts are fun too <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif"&gt; If you find the right place you can normally find somewhere where people are friendly and not too psychotic (can be a problem occasionally <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif"&gt; ). Sports make you a lot more confident too.

    Particularly martial arts: if someone comes up to you and starts picking a fight, you don't worry so much, and when you turn around and walk / run away, you know you're doing it cos you don't want to break their arm, not because you're scared, like they're saying <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">.

    LOL you obviously didn't read my post a month or so ago http://www.thesite.org/ubb/Forum22/HTML/000084.html I got into a bit of a scuffle and ran away. I do martial arts but I seem to think that I'm doing too much excercise and just burning everything up. If I join a gym I could get a program maybe.

    If you think you're burning everything up then you need to eat lots more protein and carbohydrate. Simple as that. If you want to seriously grow muscles Dave's right about the gym and bodybuilding thing though.
