    Daze u make me laugh!
    Thanx a lot j9j9, that made me feel better <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">. I do have a birthing partner, I think itll b my sister or my best friend Kay, she is older than me and wiser so should be good to have around. Thanx for the offer anyway!
    Think Im just paniking lately, its not too long now and Im starting to freak out a bit. Also the housing people say Ill be waiting about a year and a half for a place, thats a long time to be stuck in a hostel. Little things like this r just getting to me, and Im worrying Ill be shit as a mum!
    It sounds stupid I know but apparently its normal to start worrying from now on?
    Cheers anyway j9j9 <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif"&gt;

    Yea will do. Ive had some pretty dodgy dreams actually.
    Funny that u wanted to write girl, everyone says thats what im having but I dont have a clue. My mum had a dream the other nite that I gave birth to a baby girl, exactly 51b (a bit small but hey).
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
    Yeah I had weird dreams in the last trimester of my pregnancy. I think its because u sleep lightly because u r uncomfortable and the baby resting on your bladder etc, and when u sleep lightly u have more REM sleep, which causes the weird dreams. Its pretty normal.

    As for labour... I had an elective ceasarean section because my baby was in the breech position (feet first). They advised me to have a c-section because I am small framed and my baby was massive on the scan and she was breech.

    They booked me in for my 38th week and they told me this on my 37th week.

    However, my little mite decided to be mishevious and she tried to come out on the night before the morning I was due to go to hospital for the op!

    Hehe! I was sitting on the edge of the bed and just about to rest for the night. The hubby was checking my suitcase and I had a sudden urge to take a pee.

    I got up and all this water started gushing out by the bucket full. I was really shocked. I had been having horrible period like pains in my tummy on and off all day but did not even realise it was labour pains. I thought I was just excited because of the thought of going in hospital the next day to have my baby.

    I sat on the loo while the hubby rushed around to get my clothes to put on, etc. He reckons it sounded like 50 blokes peeing at the samne time as i sat on the loo with me waters breaking <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif"&gt;

    I thought it would never end. LOL. You expect it to end soon, like peeing, but it goes on forever. It was still gushing out when i got to the hospital. I was really embarassed but obviously they r used to it.

    When I got to the maternity ward the doc looked at my cervix and it was 3cm dilated. This meant they had to give me the ceasarean then rather than wait until the next day when i was supposed to have it.

    I was in agony by this stage with labour pains becoming closer together and more intense. Believe it or not I felt lucky to have had the experience of my waters breaking and the labour pains because otherwise I would never have known what it was like.

    The ceasarean was not an easy one. The doctors reckoned it was difficult because she didn't want to come out so they had to make a wider incision because she was fairly big (8 pounds, 11 ounces). It was a difficult time and recovering from a c-section is not a wonderful experience. They kept me in the recovery room all night whereas normally they send u straight to the wards. This was because my wound opened up and I suffered too much blood loss.

    I had an epidural (spinal block) and was awake while they operated which was very strange. It feels like someone rumaging around in your stomach like its a shopping bag or something! LOL!

    U feel the pain of it all after the epidural wears off.

    However, if I had the chance to opt for one again I would because I know what to expect. Also, like J9 says, its nice to be able to keep your punani in tact! lol

    Labour pains are like intense period pains. I cannot tell u what vaginal delivery feels like but I think any delivery is not easy. When u see your bundle of joy though, all the hurt will seem insignificant.

    Don't worry. I am a wuss when it comes to pain but I was very strong when I reflect on myself. I will go through it again too when I decide I am ready for another child.

    Just make sure u have a good birth partner and you'll be just fine.

    Hope I haven't done your head in with my experiences of it. remember everyone is different.

    I used to be scared but having experienced it, I know I won't be scared next time.

    just be strong. you are a woman, you can handle it. nature designed our bodies to cope with child birth <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif"&gt;

    Take care babes <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif"&gt;

    PS. When is your due date? We should have a wager as to when we think lolly junior will arrive!

  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
    Wow J9! They really sucked at your maternity ward didn't they?

    Thankfully because mine was elective they let me stay awake and let Q stay in too. I think the op generally takes around an hour but the majority of that is sewing the wound back up.

    They sent Q out of the room after Farah was delivered and after all 3 of us had bonded. They sent him out, I think while they stitched me up.

    While he was in the corridor he heard me screaming because when they shot the drug into my shoulder that makes your womb contract it felt like someone was stabbing me with a knife.

    I started shaking because of the drugs and massive loss of blood.

    Q was in the corridor while I was screaming and shouting 'what's happening to me!' and the poor love didn't have any idea what was going on. He said he was really worried.

    Don must have been distraught. How awful that they just shoved him outside. Did they let him hold the baby when u were still under the anaesthetic? You both must've felt robbed of those special first moments.

    They say its harder to start up breastfeeding after a general anaethetic too.

    Even though mine had been a difficult elective c-section under epidural, I felt happy afterwards that I had been able to have the contractions, waters breaking, holding the babe straight away with q, etc.

    It must have been real hard for u guys.

    How did u bond with the babe after u had a c-section under general anaesthetic? I bet it seemed like someone just plonked this baby on u and u didn't even know what was going on because of the confusion u suffer when u come to.

    I am thinking that post natal depression must seem a lot worse too because after an anaesthetic u tend to become depressed for a few days.

    What was it like for u, j9?

    lol. sorry if i'm being nosey <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif"&gt;

    Lolly, don't forget to add your birth story here when u have given birth.

    Ha ha ha keeping my punani intact. Funny u should say that coz I think Id much rather have stiches in my belly than my puntang tee hee <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">. I think I might opt for an elective cesarean, although reckon Ill have one anyway. My mum had two due 2 her small pelvis and thinks ill b the same.
    Im not sure, all this giving birth thing just seems so unreal right now. I think Im still hoping it might all turn out to be a dream and Ill wake up at one point!!!

    I went into labour 9pm & I knew exactly what was happening so I went to bed assuming I'd be up early. I woke at 2am & decided not to bother going back to sleep. I must have been groggy b'cos I can remember thinking "I'd better not go back to sleep 'cos I wouldn't want to wake up in full flow & not have time to get to the hospital" d'oh, I should have known better. lol

    The pains were like a tightening for up to a minute with up to 10 minutes between. Not really painful.

    I had a bath & then at about 5am I woke hubby to put my TENS machine on (book a TENS machine lolly, they r brilliant) as it had to have time to build up the natural pain relief messages.

    At 6.30am ish we left for the hospital (contractions 1 minute long, 5 minutes appart).

    Luckily they weren't busy, so I was checked out and we discussed my rediculous birth plan (make a birth plan, but be realistic & put in contingency plans). The main points being about our wishes for pain relief, the fact that I wanted to be mobile (so no internal monitor attached by pins to the baby's head!!!) & management of the third stage.

    Well the labour was very slow & they decided to break my waters. That wasn't painful, but no water came out, just this greeny brown gloopy stuff!!! The midwife said don't worry, it's probably just a discharge. Stupid midwife, we now know that it was merconium, the baby had done his first poo!!!

    Hours later, the labour was still slow & my cervix was not dilating very quickly (it should dilate at a rate of 1cm per hour).

    I refused the internal monitor and I already had the external one on (a really fetching belt affair). The baby's heart rate was dropping at each contraction and recovering too slowly, so they wanted to speed things up. I really didn't want an oxytocin drip as I'd heard that can speed things up very rapidly, not allowing your body to get used to the increase in pain/discomfort gradually, so I was frightened.

    The doc. put the canular in the back of my hand for the drip, & turned around for the nurse with the drip, but she wasn't there. At this point the blood from the back of my hand was pulsating all over the floor!!

    They got the drip in & the baby's heart rate immediately dropped to 42 per minute & staryed there!! (normal is about 140 for a baby). People started dashing about, the main consultant rushed in, the baby's heart rate dropped to 14, the consultant did an internal and shouted "THIS BABY'S BREACH, GET HER TO THEARTRE NOW. This was 9 hours after I had got to hostpital and after several previous internals.

    All of a sudden the room was full of people, someone came at me with a razor and another with a catheter. A mask was put over my face for the entonox (gas & air). A consent form was thrust at me and I was expected to sign!! I was in a panic & feeling the effects of the drugs & my only concern at the time was that I was not signing for a load of encyclopaedias!!

    All of a sudden the bed was moving and I don't remember anything else until I awoke in the recovery room with a face, wrapped in a blanket, being thrust into my face.

    He was born at around 4pm, 19 hours after I had realised it was starting.

    My husband, during the section, had been abandonned by everyone & shoved out into the corridor. There was no-one to make sure that he was OK too, until a midwife found him wandering aimlessly and asked him if he was OK. He said "well no, not really" so she took him out outside so he could have a fag.

    We were taken straight to the ward because all of the side rooms were taken. I was given a maximum dose of morphine (hence the inane grin on our first photos). My wound was a wide & ragged one, because they had no time to lose. Basically they ripped me open.

    I found out later that they didn't actually hold out much hope for him when his heart rate dropped to 14.

    I was told to walk as upright as possible afterwards as this would aid the healing process. My speedy recovery was remarked upon, and I am sure that it was due to me doing as I was told, by the professionals.

    I also found out later, that it was lucky that he was breach because otherwise his lungs would have become coated with the merconium.

    I asked for an elective C-section when I had my daughter, but they said they'd prefer me to try for a vaginal delivery. But that is another story. (do you want it?)

    My advice - ask for an elective C-section, nay, demand it. That way everything is much more controlled. The horror stories you hear about C-section risk rates are based more on the emergency sections than planned ones.

    J9

    Gees thats a story and a half! Not as bad as some of the others ive heard though. Especially my mums, they r proper horrer stories, but I wont go into them.
    Oh god...Im really not wanting to do this whole baby thing...Y am I suddenly shitting myself so much!?

    If you mean the one by Croxley Met, it's the Red House. It always used to be a real dive when I lived in CG, but apparently it's got carpet instead of sawdust on the floor now lol.

    & if you mean the one by the, now defunct, Croxley Green BR station, that's the Two Bridges.

    I like the one n New Road - the Fox, or the Coach on the green
